Dr Samuel Kobia will deliver the keynote address at the annual conference of the International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ), in Chicago. Reflecting on the conference's theme "Healing the world - working together. Religion in global society," Kobia will stress the vital role of interreligious initiatives for promoting peace and justice. Rabbi David Rosen of the American Jewish Committee will respond to Kobia's address. Among other issues, Kobia will discuss the WCC central committee's recent call to member churches with investment funds to consider not participating economically in activities related to Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories as a way of putting pressure on multinational corporations benefiting from it. Expressing its commitment in the area of interreligious relations and dialogue, the WCC organized a major international multi-faith conference last June in Geneva. The conference was attended by over 130 representatives of the world's main faith communities. ICCJ vice president, Rabbi Ehud Bandel of Jerusalem, was among the Jewish participants. The Germany-based ICCJ is an umbrella organization of 38 Jewish-Christian dialogue groups worldwide. The time has come to discuss it. This will be difficult reading to some Christian patriots out there. But if you have reached the level where you can accept that our government is not, nor has been, acting in our favor; that those in power lie; that "those who would enslave us" will use any means, any vehicle to achieve that enslavement; then you must examine the evidence without the rose colored glasses. If we are indeed in a spiritual battle, then you must be able to recognize the devil in his many guises. Next to "government", his favorite must surely be "organized religion". What better way to lead the sheeple, his captured "flock", into slavery. I come from a long line of preachers. My father and grandfather were both Methodist preachers. Both were fine men, but I, on the other hand, was kicked out of Sun-day school for asking the teacher where Cain and Abel's wives came from? Seemed like a good question at the time. In my youth and as an adult, I found myself being very uncomfortable with organized religion. At that time in my life I was, like most Americans, totally ignorant in regards to the New World Order agenda and the plot to destroy, or override our Constitution. Intuitively, I refused to allow government or religion to exercise much of a hold on me. For many years I struggled with

The generally amicable relationship among religions in society contributed to religious freedom. The U.S. Government discusses religious freedom issues with the Government in the context of its overall dialog and policy of promoting human rights. Section I. Religious Demography The country is an island nation with a total area of 280,773 square miles, and its population is approximately 5.1 million. According to the 2000 census, the churches with the largest number of members are the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the United Church, and the Seventh-day Adventists. At that time, 96 percent of citizens identified themselves as members of a Christian church. Minority religions include the Baha'i Faith and Islam; there reportedly are approximately 15,000 Baha'is and 1,000 to 2,000 Muslims in the country. Many citizens combine their Christian faith with some pre-Christian traditional indigenous practices. The traditional churches proselytized on the island of New Guinea in the 19th century. Colonial governments initially assigned different missions to different geographic areas. Since territory in the country is aligned strongly with language group and ethnicity, this colonial policy led to the identification of certain churches with certain ethnic groups. However, churches of all denominations now are found in all parts of the country. The Muslim community has a mosque in the capital of Port Moresby.
