Scientology A New Religion
HERBERT RICHARDSON, PH.D.
professor of religious studies university of toronto toronto, ontario, canada My name is Herbert Richardson. I have been a professor of religious studies at the University of Toronto since 1968. Before that time, I was a professor of theology and church history at Harvard University (1963-1968). I hold a Ph.D. degree in the history and philosophy of religion from Harvard University (1963). I am an ordained minister of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. and have served parishes in Natick, Massachusetts and Cattaraugas, New York. In addition, I have been a chaplain to university students at Radcliffe College/Harvard University and Bucknell University . My published books include: The Terrible Choice: The Abortion Dilemma (Bantam, 1968) Transcendence (Beacon Press, 1969) Anselm of Canterbury (SCM, 1974) A Time for Consideration (The Edwin Mellon Press, 1978) New Religions and Mental Health (The Edwin Mellon Press, 190) Since 1916, I have been engaged in research, publication, and university teaching focusing on those groups called "new religions." This has involved extensive reading, interviews with members and visits to the centers of new religions, organizing seminars for cooperation among scholars in this field (in Asia, Europe, and North America), and editing scholarly volumes. One of the religious groups to which I have devoted study is the Church of Scientology . I have examined the works of L. Ron Hubbard

Presented by
The Church of Scientology International
Based on the works of
L. Ron Hubbard
That public interest in Scientology is mounting rapidly is undeniable. This volume was first compiled in 1992 to fill the demand for a concise reference on Scientology. In the seven years since then, the explosive growth of Scientology churches, missions and groups around the world has necessitated the publication of this updated and expanded edition.
While continued expansion will inevitably change the numbers once again, much will remain constant, including, of course, the technology of Scientology and its effect upon all it touches. To provide an understanding of this phenomenon, contained herein is a complete description of Scientology: its religious philosophy, its practices, its organization, its activities and its growing influence on society.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~anco/mental/
^home 'What is our purpose on this world?', and 'Is there life after death?' are IMHO invalid questions that we simply never can answer. We are only able to believe in some of those answers. Some time ago I stopped thinking about these questions. Instead of those questions I started wondering what 'excatly we humans are' and 'Given this life, how can we live it as best as possible?' Not that I know the answers by now, but I am doing my best. Some communication courses that I once did at Landmark Education helped me on my way of asking myself those above mentioned question. I gained a lot from these courses, together with a lot of discussions with friends. A book by the Spanish filosopher Savater gave a useful hint to figure out what the answer should be. And the book 'Kinds of Minds' by Dennet changed my view on human beings quite a lot. The Landmark Education Corporation has been and is quite disputed, also on the internet. Read for a critical note the Rants and Raves page which contains all sorts of links and information about LEC. For the mirror version on this site click here . I can only speak for myself and say that I gained a lot from these courses. I personally think that it depends a lot about what you are looking for and want to gain from courses in general and what you finally do with your new acquired knowledge. I at least gained a bit of confidence to do the things that I want to do in life. Another interesting site on the subject of memes that I would recommend in general. (Warning:

Welcome to the Church of Scientology Buffalo
The Buffalo Public Library building as it appeared in the 1920s. The Church of Scientology Buffalo, first established in 1967, is expanding in order to meet an increasing demand for Dianetics and Scientology services and to better meet the needs of the Buffalo community. All members of the community are welcome to tour the newly restored facility and see what has been done to return this historical city treasure to its original splendor and beyond.
Our Chapel area, set up for a banquet. The Scientology religion was founded by American philosopher and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard and welcomes people of all religious faiths and beliefs. Nonpolitical and non-dogmatic in nature, the aims of Scientology are: Mr. Hubbard believed that a person is as valuable as he can serve others, and so, in addition to servicing its parishioners of a variety of faiths and professions, the Church also actively sponsors programs to better the community. These include programs to address drug abuse, crime, illiteracy and the decline of moral values in our society.

The German foreign minister, Klaus Kinkel, says he will raise disagreements over the American-based Church of Scientology when he visits the United States on Wednesday. It follows reports that Congress in Washington is planning a resolution condemning Germany for religious persecution. In a statement in Bonn, Mr Kinkel said the allegation was without foundation because Scientology in Germany is focussed on commercial and not religious activity. The German authorities have placed Scientologists under surveillance for possible anti-state activity, after allegations that the Church is linked to Islamic extremism. The Church of Scientology in Clearwater, also called Flag Service Organization (FSO) is a religious retreat which serves as the spiritual headquarters for Scientologists from all over the world. It is the hub of the Scientology worldwide community, a dynamic, multilingual organization and is the largest single church of Scientology in the world. Historically, when a small group of Church of Scientology staff first came to Clearwater in December 1975, acquiring the Fort Harrison and Clearwater Bank building, no Scientologist lived in the area. Clearwater is the spiritual headquarters of the Scientology religion. Members of Scientology churches around the world watch satellited broadcasts of events that take place in Clearwater and look forward to coming someday for Scientology training and religious counseling services. Tens of thousands of Scientologists have visited Clearwater over the years, from every one of the United States and almost every country on Earth. Those who visit also promote Clearwater to their friends and families around the world. about my friend Deutch websites ... legal
I was trained in the C of S up through level V and audited up through OTIII there as well. I was fully hatted as a course supervisor, word clearer, auditor, ethics officer and tech sec. I was in the C of S (on staff) for 8 years. The entire 8 years was spent in the tech division. I held the following posts: HGC auditor, C/S, Intern Supervisor, Word Clearer, Course Supervisor, and Tech Sec. I still love the tech as it has always worked for me and for many others that I have personally applied it too. The difference now is that I can compare it to other things I know without fear of punishment or ethics.
The other major stop for the current C of S is that for a group that claims to be "clearing the Planet" or having the intention to help "all others," they sure make the teachings or "therapy" unreachable for all but the most wealthy such as Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Priscilla Presley, etc. etc. etc. It is all well and good to clear some rich people but there is a whole planet out there that cannot be reached due to out-reality pricing. David Miscavige and his co-horts live like kings. Only the org staff and the sea org members that work day and night live on nothing. The cream of the crop top management team live as well as any Hollywood star. This is a BIG OUTPOINT as to what LRH originally intended.
