The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of." Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these: can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability. In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.

    Church of Scientology
    The Creed of the Church of Scientology was written by L. Ron Hubbard shortly after the Church was formed in Los Angeles on February 18, 1954. After L. Ron Hubbard issued this creed from his office in Phoenix, Arizona , the Church of Scientology adopted it as its creed because it succinctly states what Scientologists believe. W e of the Church believe: T hat all men of whatever race, color, or creed were created with equal rights; T hat all men have inalienable rights to their own religious practices and their performance; T hat all men have inalienable rights to their own lives; T hat all men have inalienable rights to their sanity; T hat all men have inalienable rights to their own defense; T hat all men have inalienable rights to conceive, choose, assist or support their own organizations, churches and governments; T hat all men have inalienable rights to think freely, to talk freely, to write freely their own opinions and to counter or utter or write upon the opinions of others; T hat all men have inalienable rights to the creation of their own kind;

  • According to texts published by the Church of Scientology and its web page pertaining primarily to its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, always referred to as L. Ron by Scientologists, experienced early in his life the many facets of the human mind. At the age of 12, he learned from Commander Joseph C. Thompson, who was the first military official to study under Sigmund Freud in Vienna, Austria, the theory of psychoanalysis. Hubbard was also influenced by his many world journeys to exotic locales, thus gaining an appreciation for Eastern philosophies rooted in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism. His studies in mathematics, engineering, and nuclear physics at George Washington University generated a scientific background to his beliefs in the human mind, although his studies did not earn him a degree. As a naval officer during World War II, he suffered injuries that left him blind and crippled. During his recovery, he once again examined Freudian psychoanalytical theory and Eastern philosophies. He credits the eventual cure of his disabilities to his findings about the human mind during this time, findings that became the central elements of a religious doctrine he later called Dianetics.

They're telling Google to remove links to Xenu.net Google has caved in to their demands, and in view of what happens to those who defy Scientology, I can't blame them. At the same time, I am newly re-energized and angry. I wonder how many people are too. So Google, you really should remove all the spammed Scientology pages from your listings, pronto. That would be perfectly legal and would put Scientology in a worse position than it was in before they pulled this. [9 May 2000] This is a page I haven't updated in years. It's here more for its historical value than anything else. However, I recently came upon some interesting links about the Church's use of CyberSitter, a well-known Internet filtering program with a particularly nasty past. To this day, the growing edge of Scientology is still found in small Dianetic counseling groups and missions where field auditors introduce people to Scientology and offer basic counseling. Missions, more formally organized than the counseling groups, assist people who are ready to start up the bridge and encourage them to continue their efforts at the nearest local Church of Scientology. Where no groups or missions are readily available, individual field auditors may operate alone. The church supports its field auditors directly through the International Hubbard Ecclesiastical League of Pastors (IHELP), and the missions through Scientology Missions International Local churches are prepared to assist members with both the counseling ( auditing ) and class work that will allow them to reach the state of Clear . Overview:
    The Church of Scientology was founded by Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (1911-1986). He was a very successful author, having published hundreds of novels, novelettes and short stories; most dealt with science fiction. In 1950, his book "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" was published; it has since sold over 20 million copies worldwide. In 1951, Hubbard formed the religious philosophy of Scientology. The Founding Church of Scientology was opened in Washington, DC during 1955. Like many new religious movements, Scientology has been attacked by the Anti-Cult Movement . These criticisms appear to have reached their peak in the 1990s, and are now in decline.

    In the late 1940s, pulp writer L. Ron Hubbard declared: "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion" Reader's Digest reprint, May 1980, p.1 Hubbard later created the Church of Scientology... Based on a text by ex-Scientologist Roland Rashleigh-Berry. Roland wrote: "This is my personal opinion. I grant permission to anyone to reproduce this material. This description has been tailored to people who have never been Scientologists and seek a simple and short explanation as to what it is and why it is surrounded by controversy."
    In a Nutshell
    The Church of Scientology is a vicious and dangerous cult that masquerades as a religion. Its purpose is to make money. It practices a variety of mind-control techniques on people lured into its midst to gain control over their money and their lives. Its aim is to take from them every penny that they have and can ever borrow and to also enslave them to further its wicked ends. It was started in the 1950s by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard in fulfilment to his declared aim to start a religion to make money. It is an offshoot to a method of psychotherapy he concocted from various sources which he named "Dianetics". Dianetics is a form of regression therapy. It was then further expanded to appear more like a religion in order to enjoy tax benefits. He called it "Scientology".

    The Church of Scientology is a commercial enterprise that masquerades as a religion, and that increasingly acts like a hate group . Scientology has a long history of hate and harassment activities, which - along with lying and deception - are condoned and encouraged in the cult's own ''scriptures.'' Scientology services increase spiritual awareness, personal freedom and ability, and help the individual overcome unwanted conditions in life. In training, as in counseling, the individual progresses at his or her own rate of speed; you may enroll on a course at any time. Mr. Hubbard even researched and discovered why some people have difficulty learning, so there are no barriers to your progress. Scientology is the result of more than half a century of research into the human spirit, the mind and life. It is the synthesis of 50,000 years of thinking men combined with new methods of application. Scientologists come from all parts of the world, all walks of life , and have tremendously varied interests and professions. But they share certain things in common. Scientologists are 100% drug-free . They are each seeking to improve conditions in their lives. They work to increase their spiritual awareness and ability and to help their friends, families and communities. Helping others is one of the most
