In the coming weeks Congress is scheduled to vote on the Budget Reconciliation Act, a measure authorizing many of the proposed cuts to social safety net programs, the very programs that the Bush Administration is now claiming will be needed to cover the cost of hurricane relief. Hidden in the Act is a provision that would legalize oil and gas exploration and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. ANWR is one of the last pristine places on Earth, home to one of the largest herds of Porcupine caribou and home to the Gwich'in native Alaskans who depend on the caribou for sustenance. Take a stand for the integrity of God's creation and contact your members of Congress urging them to remove the ANWR provision.
