Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME, CFIDS) and Fibromyalgia
some possible helps by Charles Weber, MS
INTRODUCTION Do not rely solely on this discussion of nutrients and strategies, but seek other medical consultation if you are sick. "Chronic fatigue syndrome" (CFS or CFIDS) or "myalgic encephalomyelitis" (ME) is a disease characterized by several of the symptoms of impaired sleep, muscle twitching at night, extreme long lasting fatigue which gets much worse with exercise (the fatigue has been suggested to be from creation of proteins which interfere with and/or destroy thyroid hormone receptors by interferon [Englebienne] ), loss of memory [Marcel], reduction of gray matter in the brain , disruption of the circadian rhythm [Tomoda], sore throat, muscle and joint aches, headache, cough, photophobia, night sweats [Evengard] depression that has much lower ACTH and cortisol secretion than typical depression [Demitrack], also a much lower secretion of growth hormone, which Cheney believes can be used to repair some of the damage to the hypothalamus of the brain (but growth hormone is degraded when eaten so can not be used by patients) and which failure is thought to be from over secretion of somatostatin in the hypothalamus [Paiva], a failure for a 383 amino acid cortisol binding protein to decline under stress as it usually does when not ill, lower secretion of DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone ) [Kuratsune] which is the most abundant circulating steroid [No authors], there is a less rise of DHEA under ACTH stimulation compared to cortisol than normal [Scott 2000] (You may see how some

Alpha Nutrition The Problem: The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is characterized by persistent and debilitating fatigue and additional nonspecific symptoms such as sore throat, headache, tender muscles, joint pains, difficulty thinking and loss of short term memory. CFS and related disorders are not discrete diseases in the usual sense, but patterns of maladaptive responses to food and the environment. Controversy and confusion has surrounded CFS for several decades and many physicians continue to be reluctant to make this diagnosis. We believe that CFS is one example of non-specific hypersensitivity disease and should be treated with diet revision as the first and most essential form of therapy. Our theory of delayed or type 3 pattern food allergy explains all the features of CFS and locates the disease in the middle of a larger pool of hypersensitivity disorders. CFS is a non-specific expression of immune-mediated disease. The Solution

Download this Patient Note in PDF format VOL 111 / NO 4 / APRIL 2002 / POSTGRADUATE MEDICINE "I'm exhausted." We all are apt to say those words once in a while. After all, no one is immune to being tired. But for some people, fatigue stops them in their tracks. It arrives suddenly or comes and goes for no apparent reason, or it may never relent. If you're tired beyond the normal waves of energy that everyday life brings and are not suffering from a particular illness, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) may be playing a role. What is CFS?
For many people, CFS begins after a cold or a bout with the flu, bronchitis, or other infection. But unlike these illnesses, which usually go away in a few days or weeks, CFS symptoms wax and wane in frequent but unpredictable cycles. According to the International Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Study Group, a person may have CFS if he or she has unexplained, persistent fatigue along with four or more of the following symptoms for more than 6 months:
  • Substantial impairment in short-term memory or concentration
  • Sore throat
  • Tender lymph nodes
  • Muscle pain
  • Pain in multiple joints without swelling or redness
  • Headaches of a new type, pattern, or severity

Edgar Cayce's Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Treatment
Greetings!
I overcame multiple sclerosis using an alternative treatment suggested by Edgar Cayce , a man many regard as the father of modern holistic medicine. Cayce also suggested a promising alternative treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

Inside every sick person is a well person wondering what the hell happened.
Welcome to the world of Living With Illness.
Chronic illness is a life experience like no other. It leaves no aspect of our lives untouched, creating uncertainty, self-doubt, losses and limitations, adjustment issues, and a lot of hard work. Illness changes the way we see ourselves and alters our perceptions of the world around us.
Learning to adapt and to live differently is perhaps the greatest challenge we will ever face.
We mourn the loss of life as it was and ultimately learn to create a “new normal.” Although at times we feel defenseless against forces we cannot control, we find options for creating meaningful lives despite significant obstacles.
It is a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit that we learn to endure and ultimately to grow. We learn to make changes when we can and to accept what we cannot change. At times our spirits may flag, causing us to wonder how we can possibly go on...and yet we do.
Those in good health cannot possibly understand the ordeals of chronic illness. They may be supportive or skeptical; they may come closer or back away. Our careers may continue, or come to a screeching halt. Nothing can be planned with certainty. Fluctuating symptoms turn every “yes” into “maybe” or “I hope so.” The coping mechanisms that once worked so well no longer apply. The things we had counted on in life become dreams rather than expectations.

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME:
A Discussion
Home Note: The information on this website is not a substitute for
diagnosis and treatment by a qualified, licensed professional. MICHELE GALANTE, MD: People will go for diagnoses. They'll go for tremendous studies and tests. And what happens is they'll come back. They'll come into my office saying, I went to the greatest clinics in the entire world and paid a tremendous amount of money. And they come in with a big package of papers saying that I've got this, this, this and this but they say that they can't help me. It's really the dilemma of modern medicine. NEENYAH OSTROM: Because of this terrible lack of definition muddle that the government has created around this illness, it's very hard for physicians and for patients to figure out how to proceed. GERALD GOLDBERG, MD: How does a patient decide whether or not, who, which doctor, what source of information does he rely on? How do they establish trust in a system that is becoming too complex for them ultimately to understand? MAJID ALI, MD:

Price JR, Couper J. ABSTRACT What's new in this issue Search abstracts Browse alphabetical list of titles Browse by Review Group A substantive amendment to this systematic review was last made on 24 August 1998. Cochrane reviews are regularly checked and updated if necessary. Background: Recently, trials have been conducted on a treatment, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), which combines a rehabilitative approach of a graded increase in activity with a psychological approach which addresses thoughts and beliefs about CFS which may impair recovery. Objectives: 1. To systematically review all randomised controlled trials of cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) for adults with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS);2. To test the hypothesis that CBT is more effective than orthodox medical management or other interventions in adults with CFS. Search strategy: 1. Electronic searching of bibliographic databases, including Medline, PsycLIT, Biological Abstracts, Embase, SIGLE, Index to Theses, Index to Scientific and Technical Proceedings, and Science Citation Index, using multiple search terms in order to perform a highly sensitive search. 2. Electronic searching of the Trials Register of the Depression, Anxiety and Neurosis group. 3. Citation lists of relevant studies and reviews were perused for other relevant trials. 4. Contact with the principal authors of relevant studies, and with researchers in the field.

It is important to look at the causes - viral, parasitic, environmental, hormonal - which can all cause problems. To be successful we must act as a detective by analyzing blood tests that will assist us with the clues. At that point we determine if we are dealing with a viral, toxin, nutritional or hormonal problem or a combination of all. Finding the cause and combining therapies often gets the best results towards the healing journey.
