CHRISTMAS CRAFTS #2
MINIATURE GIFT PAILS
Clean and dry empty soup cans. Punch two holes opposite each other, about 1/2" from the open edge. "Corkscrew" one half of an 18" piece of wire (wrap it around a pencil). Insert the ends of the wire into the punched holes. Spray paint the cans red or green. When dry, use Elmer's glue to glue on a Christmas image cut out from fabric. Fill with small toys and candy.
NAPKIN RINGS
Cut paper towel tube into widths to match the width of Christmas ribbon. Wrap ribbon (or felt) around tube and glue in place. Add smaller ribbon trim (strung sequins or 1/4" solid ribbon) to outside edges, or a Christmas card cutout to center of felt.
RIBBON ORNAMENT
Fold a 4-6" length of 1 1/2" Christmas ribbon and staple at top with a tree hanger or silver or gold ornament string. Inside the ribbon loop, insert a piece of colorful tinsel. Glue a small figure over staple (with more tinsel).
PINECONE CORSAGE
Glitter "paint" three small pinecones. Use small sire to wire them together. Center the pinecones on a 4-6" diameter paper doily, scrunch the doily so it "waves" as a background to the pinecones, and pinch out a portion of the center of the doily. Add scotch tape to build a longer 1-2" extension to the pinched doily, so it can be pinned on a blouse or coat. More colorful decoration can be added behind the pinecones (ribbon, tinsel).
CHOCOLATE SPOON TOPPERS
Place about 2 ounces of chopped dark, semisweet, milk, or white chocolate or candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes, stirring once or twice, until melted. Dip the "bowl" end of colored plastic spoons into the melted chocolate, then quickly sprinkle with multi-colored "sprinkles" candies. Place on wax paper until set. Two ounces makes about 8-10 spoons. Wrap single or sets of spoons in cellophane paper and tie off with a ribbon. (Spoons placed in hot drinks make a sumptuous treat, or tape the spoon on a gift instead of a ribbon!)

CHRISTMAS CRAFTS #1
GUMDROP TREES
You will need a 6-8" tall styrofoam tree, a couple bags of red and green gumdrops, some u-shaped hair pins, toothpicks, and a miniature string of beads. Cut toothpicks in half. Insert a toothpick into the larger (bottom) side of the gumdrops. Starting at the bottom, stick the free end of the toothpick (with gumdrops already on) into the tree. Continue until the tree is covered. (Alternate method: glue gumdrops onto tree form.) Attach the beaded string in a "loose" fashion, fastening it to the styrofoam with the hair pins. Finally, hot glue a miniature star or angel to the top.
CANDY CANES
Cut red or white pipe cleaners in half. Alternately "string" red and white tri-beads (three cornered beads with knobs on each corner and a hole in the center). Be sure the fold over the pipe cleaner at each end to be sure to catch and keep the beads on. Gently turn one end to form a candy cane shape. Hang on trees or use in place of a ribbon on a package.
MILKWEED POD ORNAMENT
Cover a milkweed pod (pear shaped) with foil. Glue a fluffed piece of cotton inside bottom and add a miniature ornament (deer, sleigh, Santa) or a cut-out from a card. Hang with an ornament hanger.

  • REIGHNDEER LOOT BAGS:
  • take a lunch bag and cut the top to resemble little antlers-just simple
  • shapes not too detailed-then you glue on googly eyes red pompoms for a nose
  • and a bow around the bottom and it made a cute reindeer. You could use
  • constuction paper for eyes and nose also. Can you picture it?
  • SANTA ORNAMENTS:
  • For each santa you need a 1 1/2" flat circle of Styrofoam about 1/2" thick
  • 12 sections cut from a red chenille pipe cleaner- cut at the narrow parts.
  • Each piece will be about 3 1/2" long. Twelve gold beads that will fit on
  • the narrow end of the pipe cleaners. 1 reg. pipe cleaner(red) and a santa
  • face that has a wire coming out of the back. (Like a flower pic)
  • Insert pointy (narrow) end of red chenille pipe cleaner into the side of the
  • styrofoam disc. insert the others all the way around except at the top. Add
  • a gold bead to the other end of the Chenille pipe cleaners. At the top use
  • the reg. red pipe cleaner to form a hanger. On the front of the styrofoam
  • insert santa face. These would be cute done with any holiday color stems and those pics. I

    CHRISTMAS CRAFTS FOR CHILDREN
    "Handsome" Christmas Wreath
Cut a cardboard ring. Cut green paper shapes of your hands. Write your name on each hand. Have your friends do some, too. Put some hands on the ring to make a wreath. Add some more hands. Add a bow and hang it up! Watercolor Christmas Lights
Have your child use watercolor paints to paint a white sheet of paper. Use lots of different colors, but don't let them overlap frequently as you paint. Lay the paper in a spot to dry. Cut out a green construction-paper Christmas tree. Cut circles out within the tree outline. Lightly glue the back of the construction paper tree before placing it atop of the painted paper. Trim the painted paper to fit the tree. From the painted paper scraps, cut a star for the top of the tree. These trees are eye-catching displays taped to windows! Pinecone Trees
Paint a pinecone green using tempera paint. Allow to dry. Use an electric mixer to whip one part water and three parts of Ivory Snow. Sprinkle salt and silver glitter in the mixture; then stir it. Using your fingers, dab the mixture onto the pincone to resemble snow. Press a mound of white clay onto a paper plate and put the pincone into it. Add small plastic animals, if desired, to complete the wintry scene. Angel Ornament
Draw an outline of an angel on tagboard and cut out. Punch a hole in the top of the angel and tie on a gold-cord loop for hanging. Glue pearls, an assortment of pasta shapes, and different-colored sequins onto the angel shape. Wow! What a beautiful display for your Christmas tree!

Use a cake-decorating tip to spread the icing, which acts like cement, between four wafer cookies and stack them on top of one another. Spread more icing on two sides of the wafers and place a flat cookie on each "long" side. Decorate the outside of the cookies with more icing. For the engine front and wheels, use two Oreos (or any other dark, round cookies) stacked together with icing ( figure A ). Step 4 explains how to make a smokestack and wheel decorations.
