The Truth Shall Set You Free
Introduction
In recent years, there has been a surge of interest in religions, including a number of books which point out the errors in the literal interpretation of the Bible, as professed by the so-called Fundamentalist Christian denominations. Less attention has been devoted to examining the more liberal churches. These include the Catholic Church, liberal in the sense of not considering the Bible to be literally true. It is also the major Christian denomination and wields considerable influence in America and the world today. It would behoove us to take a rational look at the bases and influences of the more liberal churches, to see what value they have in informing our policies, both personal and public, in the light of Catholic/Protestant cooperation in the political arena, such as the Christian Coalition, and Operation Rescue, and papal pronouncements on birth control, war, capital punishment, and the third world. An example to consider is the fairly recent tenure of Governor Mario Cuomo of New York. He was pro-choice regarding abortion, a fact which led the local cardinal to suggest he might be subject to excommunication. He claimed to be personally opposed to abortion, in deference to his Catholic roots and constituents, but his opposition to abortion always seemed to me hypocritical, never reaching the level of his opposition to capital punishment, which he vetoed each year of his terms. We are not here to examine the relative merits of allowing women the choice of abortion or allowing the voters the choice of capital punishment, but I ask why the governor was afraid of excommunication so much as to denounce the threat of its use. What hold does the church (the Catholic Church, and religion in general) have over people? Was the governor concerned over his "immortal soul" or over his Catholic constituent/voters?

Introduction With an approximately 1.7 billion people world wide, Christianity is arguably the largest religion in the world today. Started at around 30 AD, Christianity is based on the teachings and life of Jesus Christ . Christianity was founded in the first century in Palestine by the disciples of Jesus . Many missionaries spread it, despite heavy persecution, throughout the Roman Empire. Perhaps the most notable missionary was Paul Bible . The Bible holds all the teachings of Jesus on how all Christians should live out their lives.

Gnostic Mystics of Christianity: The True Intent of Jesus Christ for His Church The Holy Order of Royal Christs of the Most High God
Who is a Gnostic Mystic?
A Mystic ascends the Heavens to become ultimately Gnostic.
A Gnostic simply is a person who has Gnosis.
"Gnosis" means "personal KNOWLEDGE of God."
Therefore, a Gnostic Mystic is one who knows God directly!
How, then, does one find Mystical Gnosis?
Just like Jesus blinded Paul through a Gnostic or Mystical encounter, we experience Gnosis through divine revelation. In other words, one becomes a Gnostic through ascension of Consciousness. The Key to attaining Spirit or God Consciousness is through growing in Holiness which comes about through a reading of the Word to attain a personal Knowledge or Gnosis of God. Gnostic or Mystical Christianity Many people get turned off by Christianity. They hate the rules, the religion, and the hypocrisy. They hate the limitations on sin, they hate the thought of Jesus Christ as being the ONLY Way to Heaven. In the same Way, many people, even most Christians, get turned off by the word "Gnostic." They consider it to be some evil sect or cult of Satan. But I challenge that concept. I hope to help the Christian become Gnostic or filled by the Holy Spirit.
In fact, I assert that the first Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ and even Paul became Gnostic in their Highest state of advancement WITHIN Christianity. The invisible Manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Apostles then became such a profoundly personal and mysterious experience that it defied all explanation to the ordinary man. Consequently, disagreements arose concerning us Mystics, Saints, Christian Gnostics, or "Knowers of God" even within the Church that has lasted even up until today.

149. The Bible And Christianity -- The Historical Origins
A secular view of the origins of christianity and its scriptures.

The Bible And Christianity - The Historical Origins
A rational, secular, historical perspective on the history of Christianity and its scripture
An essay by Scott Bidstrup "If the truth is that ugly which it is then we do have to be careful about the way that we tell the truth. But to somehow say that telling the truth should be avoided because people may respond badly to the truth seems bizarre to me." Chuck Skoro, Deacon, St. Paul's Catholic Church
T he Bible is a lot of things to a lot of people, but to Christians, especially, it is a source of inspiration and a guide to daily living. To others, the Bible is a historical document and a source of controversy. To others still, the Bible is a self-contradictory mish-mash of arcane rules and proscriptions, mostly relevant to long-dead cultures in far away places. What is the truth in all of this? The reality is that it is all true to an extent, and equally nonsensical at the same time. The Bible has meaning to all its readers, but it is important to consider that the meaning it has is informed by the prejudices the reader brings to it. To really understand the Bible and what it intends to say to present generations, it is necessary to understand who wrote it and why, and the cultural context in which it was written. The story is an interesting one, in no small part because the story is so much messier than most of its advocates would have you to believe.

The study of religion explores one of the primary activities of humankind. It involves a comparative understanding of the various ways different peoples, across space and through time, have developed their religious ideas, values, systems, beliefs, rituals, and traditions in response to fundamental questions of human existence. As an interdisciplinary academic discipline, the study of religion offers a rigorous, systematic, and dispassionate intellectual inquiry into various aspects of religious systems, their practitioners and outlooks, their goals and expressions. It employs a wide variety of approaches and methods in order to understand the role of religion in both human experience and thought. The goal of the Department of Religion is to make available to students the broadest possible range of inquiry about this enormous field, which has impacted, and continues to impact, all aspects of human experience.

Policies of mainline and liberal Christians towards proselytizing Jews:
In recent decades, a "third wave" of academic research into the life and beliefs of Jesus has been led by mainline Christian, liberal Christian, and Jewish theologians. They are beginning to appreciate the depth of the relationship between Jesus' teachings and the beliefs of various groups within Judaism during the 1st century CE. There is increasing dialog with Jews by non-conservative Christian theologians interested in discovering the roots of their own faith. The Presbyterian Church , the United Methodist Church , and the Roman Catholic Church have entered into dialog with American Jews, while discontinuing any efforts to convert them. They have gone beyond rejecting anti-semitism, and beyond simple tolerance. They now value Judaism as a "sister" religion with whom they have much in common, and from which they have much to learn. The dialog is conducted between the two religions as equals in a spirit of honest seeking. Click below to visit one of our sponsors:

Islamic Studies in Christian Perspective Welcome to our web page. Our goal is, in all things, to be devoted to serving Almighty God by seeking and knowing His Holy Truth. We believe that eternity lies ahead of all of us, and that God, who is perfectly Holy and Just, will judge each and every one of us according to His righteous and perfect standard. We will be judged according to our responses to the law and commands of Holy God, as He has revealed in His Word. His Word tells us that there is only one way to salvation by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Thus our goal and desire is to seriously, openly, and objectively seek truth in all things.
