The Distance Learning Centre was established in 1995 to develop distance-learning versions of the School of East Asian Studies' prestigious postgraduate degrees. As a result, you can study with Sheffield wherever you happen to be in the world and, because the programmes are part-time, you can fit your studies into your working life. Since the launch of the award-winning distance-learning MA in Advanced Japanese Studies in 1996, over 500 students around the world have taken up this opportunity. Alongside study with text and audio-visual materials, you can tap into the expertise of the department through on-line interaction via WebCT and e-mail with academic tutors as well as your fellow students, and come together for face-to-face teaching, seminars and fun social events in an intensive summer residential held each year.
