Welcome to the Hakka Hunt, a site that aims to provide comprehensive knowledge about the Chinese particularly the Hakka community who are famous for their hill songs and their contribution to Chinese culture.
This web site is a collection of my efforts to better understand my culture in a world where multiple-cultures are a norm. As a Hakka person and as an informed individual, I would like to share some of the things I have learned in my pursuit.
About three years ago, I started this website to learn more about my own background and culture. In return, I have been rewarded with wonderful stories about Hakka people from all parts of the world. I am very grateful to everyone who has shared his/her story with me. It is for you that I keep this site up and running.
I invite you to look around and let me know what you think of this site. Any suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated.

"The great law of culture is: Let each become all that he was created capable of becoming." Thomas Carlyle What is a culture? Is it characterized by art or literature? Does it include actions, feelings, or thoughts? Is it ideas, objectives, or ways? What about beliefs or values, or customs or tradition? Is it something as simple as a field of activity or as complex as a neverending experiment? Culture is all of these, but it is true that it cannot be truly defined by a single stroke of words. In everyday conversation, the word culture might refer to such fields as literature, art, or music; yet scientists who study culture see it as something more complex, a way of life as well as acting, feelings, and thinking. And even within these "definitions" of culture there are different views on what exactly culture is. Painting a Scene So what exactly is culture? The answer depends on you. However, it is not what culture IS that makes it so important and fascinating; it is what it means and what it represents. A culture defines and sets something apart from everything else. It makes something

    What's new?
Welcome to the homepage of the Institute of Chinese Culture (ICC). The ICC, founded in Houston in 1970, became the first non-profit, formally chartered Chinese language school and cultural organization in Texas. It was established to promote and preserve the Chinese culture and heritage within a multicultural community. The ICC had its beginnings at the campus of Rice University and then relocated to the Clarewood location in 1988. A fire in 1995 destroyed the building which housed the ICC. The education operations continued from facilities generously provided by Southwest College of the Houston Community College System. The ICC recently purchased a building at 10550 Westoffice Drive as a permanent location for the school. The new building is the culmination of the effort and contribution, a shining moment in the history of the ICC and a reflection of generous community spirit. A Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the new building was held on Saturday, August 16, 1997. The Board of Directors as well as all the parents and students of the ICC cordially give sincere thanks to the entire Houston community to participate in this joyous occasion. The ICC also extends many thanks to Rice University and the Houston Community College System for their enormous support in the past, and to all the friends of the ICC near and far who made this dream become a reality. The ICC provides the following Saturday classes. Please contact Mrs. Jeanne Ma (281-980-5172) for further information:
