How they handle drugs at their house
Posted Sep 19, 2005, 1:31 PM ET by Jennifer Creer
Related entries: Child Development Lifestyle Media The author of The Crooked Trail recently posted about how her husband handles the issue of drugs at their house. Their oldest child is 13, their youngest is 4, and they have 3 kids altogether. So, one night at dinner, her husband asked the kids what they knew about drugs. These are young kids, and they are also Mormons in Utah, which may explain why the kids were non-responsive. Their father continued by telling the kids that drugs are illegal, but that is not the main thing they have to worry about if the kids ever do drugs. Oh no. If the kids do drugs, they will have to worry about their father The Crooked Trail and deliver it full force with the roast beef and mashed potatoes.

It is MCH's goal that every child in NH have the opportunity to grow up healthy. To accomplish this mission MCH administers a broad array of programs. Community health agencies around the state receive funds through contracts with MCH to deliver services to pregnant women and their infants including prenatal care, child health services, family planning and home visiting services. MCH staff develop program guidelines based on best practices and monitor the performance and quality of services delivered. In addition to these 4 major program areas MCH administers several other programs:
    • The Injury Prevention Program provides leadership and support to NH government agencies and local initiatives to prevent intentional and unintentional injuries.

    The As Safe As
    Possible Campaign
Preventing childhood injury Who We Are

The As Safe As Possible Campaign is a not-for-profit national public awareness and education organization, launched in 1993 to halt the epidemic of unintentional injuries that has swept this country. It was formed with the belief that, through its efforts, childhood injuries can be prevented and lives saved. The history of accidental injury of young children demonstrates the continuing need to educate parents and grandparents on how to protect children from potentially harmful substances and circumstances. As a part of a continued effort to keep all young children safe and healthy, we provide safety information, with the hope that if this advice is followed, a reduction in the number of unintentional childhood injuries will follow.
    What We Do
The As Safe As Possible Campaign provides support and guidance in developing and implementing child safety programs. We happily work with any organization to establish invaluable injury prevention programs in their community; based on needs identified by community members. The As Safe As Possible Campaign encourages activities and other efforts that prevent injuries to children. *ASAP advocates for children by promoting new ideas/ offering new solutions to solve the long standing childhood injury crisis. *ASAP analyzes and monitors programs, to find out what works for child safety and what doesn't. *ASAP educates the public and the media about children's safety issues *ASAP builds networks to forge stronger relationships among diverse community groups and individuals, who are determined to improve the quality of life for children.

Make sure your childs gifts are safe, appropriate
The brisk air of autumn ushers in holiday shopping season. Toy stores soon fill with eager shoppers looking for perfect toys for their children. While you are shopping, keep safety in mind, too. Pay special attention to the toys you purchase for your children and carefully inspect toys given to your children by well-meaning relatives and friends. Stop and think ahead of time. Is this toy appropriate? Dont pick out a toy you think your child will grow into, said Diane Bell, director of the Think First Injury Prevention Program, a Baptist Memorial Health Care project. Each year, toys and home playground equipment cause more than 11,000 injuries to childrens eyes, according to Prevent Blindness America, a volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight.
