The displays are built to involve children in demonstrations, hands-on experiments and one fascinating learning project after another. For example, children can watch a display of live bees, then crawl into and explore a section of honeycomb. All cultures throughout history have produced art, although the forms may vary greatly. The impulse to create, to realize form and order out of mere matter, is universal and perpetual. Such art can include visual arts, literature, music, dance, and other forms. Most contemporary artists understand that both our lives and our art are shaped by the shifting dynamics of many factors including race, ethnicity, class, gender, nationality and cultural differences. Art museums are institutions or buildings where objects of aesthetic value are preserved and displayed for the public. Statement of Purpose:
The Strecker Museum Complex, an educational component of Baylor University, utilizes the physical environment and collections of natural objects and material culture, with an emphasis on the relationships between humans and the natural world in Central Texas, for public programming, which is supported by research and academic instruction, for the benefit of diverse audiences.
    Highlights:
The Strecker Museum is the oldest unit of the complex, celebrating its 100th birthday in 1993. Begun as a natural history museum, it now houses both natural history specimens and cultural artifact from prehistoric man to the present. The 20 structures in the Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village were added in 1986. The third unit of the complex, the Ollie Mae Moen Discovery Center, is a hands-on children's museum. The most recent addition is the Waco Mammoth Site. A partnership project with the City of Waco, the site of 22 mammoth remains represents the largest herd of mammoths to die in a single catastrophic event in the world. The site is not open to the public at this time. The Complex also houses the Department of Museum Studies, which offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees.
    Exhibits:
