    Stunning Moves
What is the most amazing move of all time?
Is it Shirov's fantastic 47...Bh3! against Topalov in the Linares tournament of 1998. Or how about Bischoff's Queen sac against Nogueiras in Havana 1998. There are of course many other candidates, Ivanchuk's 21.Qg7!! against Shirov in Wijk aan Zee 1996 must rate in the top ten.
This position must be one of the most famous in chess history.

A GUIDE TO SCHOLASTIC CHESS Preface Dear Administrator/Teacher, This guide was created to help teachers and scholastic chess organizers who wish to begin, improve, or strengthen their school chess program. It covers how to organize a school chess club, run tournaments, keep interest high, and generate parent and public support. I would like to thank the United States Chess Federation Club Development Committee, especially former Chairman Randy Siebert, for allowing us to use the framework of The Guide to a Successful Chess Club (1985) as a basis for this booklet. In addition, I want to thank Beatriz Marinello, Scholastic Director of the U.S. Chess Federation (USCF), and the USCF for their continuing help in the preparation of this publication. Scholastic chess, under the USCF’s guidance, has greatly expanded and made it possible for the wide distribution of this guide. I look forward to working with them on many projects in the future. The following scholastic organizers reviewed this work and made many suggestions, which have been included. Thanks go to Jay Blem (CA), Leo Cotter (CA), Stephan Dann (MA), Bob Fischer (IN), Doug Meux (NM), Andy Nowak (NM), Andrew Smith (CA), Robert Snyder (CA), Brian Bugbee (NY), and many others too numerous to mention.

    An article by Steve Berry.

France can be a country of extremes. It changes government by revolution and is rather proud of the fact. Americans have been happy with same old boring republic for more than 200 years whilst the French have enjoyed five republics in the same length of time. In chess too, the French seem to swing from one extreme to another.

    The Fischer King
In the surreal setting of war-torn Yugoslavia, reclusive chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer emerged to meet Boris Spassky.
posted by ChessManiac : 5:23 AM
    Friday, January 28, 2005
Bobby Fischer is a Ferocious Winner
Angry voices rattled the door to Bobby Fischer's hotel room as I raised my hand to knock. "Goddammit, I'm sick of it!" I heard Bobby shouting. "I'm sick of seeing people! I got to work, I got to rest! Why didn't you ask me before you set up all those appointments? To hell with them!" Then I heard the mild and dignified executive director of the U.S. Chess Federation addressing the man who may well be the greatest chess player in world history in a tone just slightly lower than a yell: "Bobby, ever since we came to Buenos Aires I've done nothing but take care of you, day and night. You ungrateful -!"
It was 3 p.m., a bit early for Fischer to be up. Ten minutes later, finding the hall silent, I risked a knock and Fischer cracked the door. "Oh yeah, the guy from LIFE. Come on in." His smile was broad and boyish but his eyes were wary. Tall, wide and flat, with a head too small for his big body, he put me in mind of a pale transhuman sculpture by Henry Moore. I had seen him twice before but never so tired.
