A call for more clubs to develop chess sites with a slide presentation, technical advice and resources.
http://www.gtryfon.demon.co.uk/bcc/Uk_clubs/moresites/moresites.htm
More British Chess Web Sites! Why set up on the web? The author really hopes that this club site inspires other UK chess organisations to get onto the web. Here are a few justifications why the web is an interesting medium for chess (Please feel free to bring up these points in your club's annual general meeting!) .....
  • Chess games are essentially information... as such they can be distributed on the web which itself is essentially an information sharing medium. It has never been easier to share the chess news of your local area with the world and at the same time promote chess in your area! The two best British examples (**) are The Week In Chess by Mark Crowther, and the 4NCL web site by John Saunders Minimal costs, Maximum audience... Web sites offer a way of displaying up-to date information with minimal distribution costs. See for example the report on the Drury Lane Grandmasters . This happened to be a tournament walking distance from where I work, and as such it was easy for me to report on it with the kind assistance of the tournament organiser Adam Raoof. Its getting easier and easier !.... The tools and resources and better for developing web sites. It does not have to consume a great deal of time and it will not cost the earth. See the

Hi Chess Folks!
This is going to be a tough thing to write. As many of you know, my wife and I are originally from the Southeast and we will be returning there at the end of September. We have enjoyed our time in Washington, but it is time that we get closer to family. My last night at the Everett Chess Club will be Sept. 20th. So, I can hear you thinking, “What does this mean for the Everett Chess Club?” Well, I might ask the same of each of you. You see, I don’t mind having done all the work of the club to date, but I honestly believe that by relying on one person to handle everything the growth of the club has been stunted. I know that I’m not very good at organization, so there have been some things that have slipped through the cracks. So while I’ll miss all of you very much, my fondest hope is that this will be the impetus for the club to grow into something more than it is now. Then, how do we transition? Well, I’ve reserved the next 3 Tuesdays in the Library auditorium, so I thought that next Tues. Aug. 30th we could hold a meeting to discuss how to move forward. I thought we could hold a Game in 15 tournament on Tues. Sept. 6th and then on Tues. Sept. 13th we could hold another meeting for organizational purposes. If you all want to not have a tournament on Sept. 6th now is the time to be heard.

And we're off!!! School has begun. Do you have trouble keeping up with your young ones as they gallop through their school work? Did you have one who read half his school books before the school year started and now you have to re-do the lesson plans? (I did!) Or do you feel as though you are trying to break wild horses? You know, those children who never like to sit still and who seem to be interested in very little except playing? (I have this category of children also!) Thankfully, this is the beauty of homeschooling. The curriculum that works for one child may have to be tossed aside for something different for the next child. This is especially true if your children have different learning styles. Don't be afraid to shift in midstream. If your child really dislikes a particular subject, try presenting it a different way. You may discover the interest is there if the material is presented in a manner more consistent with the learning style of your child. Don't let your child manipulate you however. Sometimes they simply must do the work even if they hate it. We all have our likes and dislikes; things we are good at and things we aren't. There is much to be said for knuckling down and writing the paper even if the writer doesn't like writing!

HISTORY
The Association promotes the game of chess at all levels by providing League and Cup tournaments for both teams and individuals. It also aims to provide links between local chess clubs.
For the last 39 years, the Association have staged an annual weekend Chess Congress which is very popular with players from all parts of the country.
2002 is the Associations Golden Jubilee and it is hoped to stage several special events to mark the 50 years.
In the early days, the Association had only about eight clubs playing in one division and this continued until around 1962.
It was about this time that the late Tom Atkinson was President of the Association and under his leadership, the Association progressed until there were approximately 36 - 40 league teams. Many of these teams, particularly those from local works and offices, have long been disbanded. Readers of a similar age to the Editor, will recall such names as, Hull Corporation Transport, Fenners, Hull Grammar Schools,John Goods, Needlers, Northern Dairies, Hull Daily Mail and many more.
The first Secretary was John Devine and he was followed by the late Alec Farquharson. John Lawson took over in 1962 and in 1964 the Association organised the very first Hull Chess Congress, which attracted 36 players at Carron House on Beverley Road.
