http://chemweb.unp.ac.za/chemistry/Programs/programs_chemistry_general.htm
Academic Programmes: Chemistry - General Chemistry - General Chemistry 2005 Chemical Technology Chemical Technology 2005 Why Study Chemistry Chemistry is fundamental. We live in a material world made up of molecules and atoms . It is the role of the chemist to study this world, to find out what the world is made of and how the world works. It is also the role of the Chemist to find ways of making our world a better place to live in. Chemistry is one of the central sciences . Chemistry concerns itself with the composition of matter and how matter can be changed form one form to another. As such, Chemistry has a role in many other sciences. Modern botanists make use of Organic Chemistry when studying how plants behave; a soil scientist won't get very far unless she has some knowledge of Chemistry; even microbiologists and animal scientists need to make use of Chemistry at times. Chemistry is wide-ranging. As a Chemist, you may find yourself specializing in one of many different disciplines. Perhaps you've heard of Inorganic Chemistry ? As an Inorganic Chemist you might find yourself at the forefront of materials research (for example with De Beers/Element Six), on the other hand you might be involved in studying the processes of life itself (we're not made up solely of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; there is a lot of Inorganic Chemistry in our bodies as well!). Of course, you might become an

ChemCases.com helps you evaluate the decisions behind these products and situations. Merlexi Craft: See http://merlexi.com ChemCases.com shows how the chemistry of food relieves our hunger, the chemistry of water and Gatorade and soft drinks and beer and wine takes the edge off our thirst. It shows how our drugs and medications work by chemical reactions; it is the chemistry of fuels that powers what we drive and fly; it is chemistry that gives electricity from nuclear and more traditional power sources; chemical synthesis provides our plastics. And it is the complexities of chemistry that converts useful materials into pollutants, makes some users of alcohol into abusers and addicts some of us to innocent looking but destructive white powders.

Hold your hand in front of your face to see your bones wiggling around. Count your friends' vertebrae and locate joint articulations. Great at lab parties! $11.99 each LEONARD THE TALKING LAB MOUSE Turn Leonard on and he occasionally twitches in his cage. Pick him up by his tail and he says, ``Hey, put me down!'' Covered with real mouse fur, Leonard is the most realistic looking ersatz mouse on the market. $14.99 each September 24 September 30 REMOTE-CONTROLLED GEIGER COUNTER Looks and acts like a real Geiger counter but you can make the needle ``jump'' at the press of a button. Hide the remote control in your pocket and make the needle move when people check themselves for radiation. They'll go into hysterics thinking they have received a lethal dose! Yuks galore!

The BENGAL project is a high resolution temporal and spatial study of the BENthic biology and Geochemistry of a northeastern Atlantic abyssal Locality. This project has the general objective of understanding how the physics, chemistry and biology of the abyssal benthic boundary layer respond to, and modify the incoming chemical signal from the overlying surface layers and thus affect the palaeoceanographic record in the underlying sediment.
