American Chemical Society - A nonprofit membership organization, founded in 1876 and chartered by a 1937 Act of the U.S. Congress. With a membership of 161,000 chemists, chemical engineers, and other practitioners of the chemical sciences, it is the world's largest scientific society. Amino Acids - Displays the linear structure and structural formula for each amino acid. Atoms Family - Learn about the principles of atoms and matter and have fun at the same time. Case Histories of Drug Discovery - Society for Medicines Research symposium, "Case Histories of Drug Discovery," now available online RealAudio webcast. Chem 4 Kids - It introduces concepts in Science to kids in a simple language. The images used are excellent, most of them self-explanatary. You need to see it to believe it! CHEMIX - CHEMIX School is an educational tool for learning chemistry. It is geared toward college-level chemistry, but is also appropriate for high-school students, chemists, and teachers.

    http://www.che.ilstu.edu/teach.chem/
Welcome Teach.chem is a series of summer and academic-year workshops that will strengthen the chemistry content and constructivist pedagogy of Illinois science teachers. This project intends to identify and develop chemistry teachers who act as catalysts to systematically reform the way in which students learn chemistry and to improve their knowledge of chemistry. These teachers are responsible for helping to implement high quality pedagogy using standards-based instructional materials. Ongoing support for these teachers will be provided through local workshops, in-class mentoring, and lesson and activity sharing. Teachers will be linked together using technology-based communication systems such as the Illinois State University Online Chemistry Teaching Help Service. Application Deadline April 1, 2004 Academic and Personal Benefits:
Participants who would like to receive academic credit will be responsible for online interactions with others between July 2 - July12 and for attending the IVCC Summer Science Institute on Friday, July 16 in Oglesby, IL.

    Water Chemistry
Water - you know your life depends upon it, but how much do you really know about it? Water covers 4/5 of our planet, so it is readily available, yet water is one of the earth's most precious resources. Fresh water is precious not only because we need it to live, but also because only about 3% of all the earth's water is usable. Of the water on earth, only about one percent is available as fresh water for people to use. The majority, 97%, is salt water in the oceans; the rest is locked in the ice caps or groundwater. Water is made from one oxygen atom bound to two hydrogen atoms. The formula for this is H2O. Water is usually found in its liquid state, but is also common in its gaseous state as vapor in the air, or as a solid (frozen). It is the only substance in nature which is commonly found in all three states. As the forms of water change, water moves from the sky to the earth and back to the sky again. This is called the water cycle. For more information on the water cycle, and other water chemistry issues, click on the links below.
