UKRAINE: AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS MARKET UPDATES Irina Loseva Bela Babus, Keith Bovetti ALL RIGHTS RESERVED OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES. Summary. The agricultural chemicals market is in a state of flux, but still offers sales opportunities for U.S. producers of low-chemical, low-risk products. The identified sales potential for U.S. firms wishing to enter the market is in pesticides which can combat weeds, plant diseases and insects. End summary. Market operators and agricultural chemical specialists believe that the sales volume of plant protection chemicals will increase by 5 to 20 per cent this year. A warm winter is indicative of favorable conditions for weed and pest reproduction. Over the past years, crop losses resulting from pest and weed activity have amounted to more than 30% of the crop production. These losses were in addition to the reduced quality potential of the sowed seeds. It has become almost impossible to raise crops such as: potatoes, sugar beets or vegetables without protective spraying. According to Mr. Krasnopolsky, President of the Ukrainian plant protection association and General Director of JV Raisinvest, Ukraine's affordable need in plant protection chemicals equals, USD 224 million, but potential demand equals almost USD 1 billion.

Agricultural Waste Pesticide Collection Program
The TCEQ, in cooperation with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and Texas Department of Agriculture, organizes regional waste pesticide collections to be held statewide as part of the Agricultural Waste Pesticide Collection Program. The collections, which are free and conducted rain or shine, provide agricultural producers who apply pesticides in Texas with an opportunity to dispose of unwanted products that may pose a hazard to them, their families, and their surrounding farming and ranching community, at no expense and with no questions asked. Waste from chemical distributors or chemical dealers will not be accepted. The program is strictly voluntary and no one is required to participate. Participants, however, are asked to answer several survey questions concerning the types of chemicals they brought in order to gauge the effectiveness of the program.
