    About us

Greyhound Rescue Wales is the only Welsh based registered charity, which is exclusively devoted to the welfare of Greyhounds, and Greyhound cross breeds (Lurchers) in Wales. We began in 1993, over 1000 Greyhounds and Lurchers have since been found permanent homes, and we are currently homing over 100 dogs each year all over Wales. All our work is done by volunteers who raise funds, check prospective owners, transport dogs etc. Because of our low overheads, the funds we raise go a long way. We use private, licensed boarding kennels in different parts of Wales, and we also use foster homes to look after the dogs in our care. All dogs are vaccinated and wormed and neutered and they receive all veterinary treatment which is necessary. We visit all prospective owners, we take great care is taken to match the right dog to the right home, and we provide follow-up support to make sure things are working out well. Why we are needed
Sadly Wales is no different to other parts of the UK in terms of the cruelty inflicted on some Greyhounds and Lurchers when they are no longer useful as racers or hunters. While some owners care for their dogs others just discard them when they are no longer useful. One Greyhound was hung from a tree, they are frequently thrown onto busy roads, and they are shot, battered to death, poisoned or just locked up and left to starve to death.

    Birman
Go to Birman Breeder Listings Go to Birman Retired Friends List Description Also known as the "Sacred Cat of Burma", the Birman has a number of fanciful legends associated with its origin. The breed first appeared in France in 1919 with a pregnant female imported from Burma (the male died en route). The breed was first recognized for championship status by a French cat registry. The breed's French name, Sacre de Birmanie, is the origin of the breed name Birman. Birmans first appeared in the United States in 1959 and in Great Britain five years later. It was accepted for championship status in GCCF in 1966 andin 1967 by CFA. It is a semi-longhaired cat, accepted only in the pointed pattern. It is distinguished from other pointed cats not only by its moderately stocky body type, but also by its four white feet. The pattern of the "gloves and laces" on the Birman is very precise on show cats. Birmans are docile, quiet cats with a strong "people" orientation. Although longhaired, they do not need daily grooming.

GENERAL: the appearance of an alert healthy small to medium sized muscular bodied cat with noticeably large eyes and ears. Cat to have the illusion of refined delicate coloring. HEAD: skull rounded front to back and side to side with rounded width at the outer eye narrowing to a definite whisker break and a medium-short, broad muzzle with a blunt nose. In profile, a rounded skull with a slight curve well below eye level. Straight line nose to chin. Chin well developed. EARS: large, slightly pointed, wide open at the base, and possessing a deep cup. Medium set. Outer lines of the ear to extend upward at an angle slightly wide of parallel. Small ears a serious fault.

guides, writers, chat moderators needed. Go here for details Cat Care Feline personality is more related to body shape than it is to breed. The Siamese is the most active, curious, vocal, and intelligent. Being a slim and elegant cat it shares these traits with other breeds like the Cornish Rex, Oriental Shorthaired, Abyssinian, and Balinese. The Persian is the easiest going of the breed cats. Others with this trait are the stocky breeds like the British Shorthaired, Exotic Shorthaired, and the Sacred Cat of Burma. In the middle of the spectrum for body type and personality is the pedigreed American Shorthaired. It has a middle of the road personality. Domestication of all the breeds will inhibit the development of the cat's behavior. They seem to never grow up. That is part of their appeal. The domestic shorthaired, in other words the alley cat; the mixed shorthaired or longhair breeds are usually free. These cats are not of show quality but they are every bit as adventurous and loving. All cats are natural hunters. Don't try and change this trait, it's useless. It is instinctual and cannot be unlearned.

    POINT SCORE
GENERAL: the LaPerm is a naturally occurring mutation producing both long and shorthaired cats. It is medium sized, curly coated with semi-foreign type. All colors are acceptable. All parts of the body are in harmony with the size of the cat. There is evidence of surprising weight for size. The cat is alert and seems to be walking tall on his feet. Coat texture will be distinctly different than that of any other Rex mutation and will vary within the breed. Males may have a curlier coat but not always. Females are generally smaller than males. HEAD: the skull is a modified wedge with rounded contours. There is a gentle convex curve rising from the bridge of the nose to the brow. the skull is a modified wedge, slightly rounded with gentle contours. Whisker pads should appear full and rounded, with long whiskers.

    http://www.train-your-dogs.co.uk
All dog owners want their dogs to be well trained. Yet, for many, the art of training a dog seems to be filled with mystery. Training your dog need not be either difficult nor time consuming. The secret is to follow a well structured course and approach each lesson logically and methodically.
    Training Broadsheets
Training Broadsheets were first published specifically for the owners of gundog breeds such as Labrador Retrievers and English Springer Spaniels. However the basic obedience training lessons apply equally to all breeds of dogs and the Training Broadsheets are the ideal training course for the owners of all breeds of dogs. Whether your dog is a family pet or a working breed, this easy-to-follow structured training course is, by far, the best training aid you will ever find. A well trained dog is a happy dog. A well trained dog is a safe dog. Even if your dog is only a family pet, it will have a much more satisfying life if it is under your control. A well trained dog will not run away. A well trained dog does not need to be shouted at.

In your lessons on cats, the Litter Box article states that you should clean your litter box with a mild bleach solution. I know you said mild - but does it not create a noxious gas when you combine bleach with ammonia (from the cat urine)? I have read that you should never use bleach to clean a litter box.
