Beersel
Beersel Vorselaer, near Antwerp
Vorselaer
The castle De Borrekens at Vorselaar (near Herenthals) is a splendid example of a medieval castle from the thirteenth century which was rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style in the nineteenth century, between 1866-1884. In the thirteenth century, it belonged to the Van Rotselaar family, who were stewards of the Dukes of Brabant. Surrounded by a moat, and guarded by fortified towers at the entrance, it is powerfully evocative of the late middle ages. The castle is still privately owned.
Veves, near Dinant, 15th-16th centuries.
Veves
The castle of Veves near Dinant was the home of the Lords of Beaufort. It possesses a dramatic site above its village. The castle is much restored, including the towers. The interior features a handsome half-timbered courtyard from the seventeenth century.

Prague Castle
Prague Castle overlooks the Vltava River and the city. No trip to Prague is complete without a visit the Castle. Prague Castle has been integral to the history of the city, Bohemia, and the Czech Republic for over one thousand years. Founded in the 9th century, it covers 45 hectares (135 acres) with a range of architectural styles from the last millennium. Towering over the castle, is St. Vitus' Cathedral. The massive structure was started in 1344, but it took almost 600 years to finish. With flying butresses and gargoyles, it's highly reminicent of Notre Dame in Paris. The cathedral houses the remains of Bohemian kings and the crown jewels. The stained glass windows are outstanding, including some by Alphonse Mucha, the famous Art Nouveau painter. Stained Glass Panel by Alfonse Mucha The Old Royal Palace is another popular attraction on the Castle grounds. It housed many of Bohemia's kings and princes over the centuries.

BELGIUM
COUNTRY OVERVIEW
  • "Nothing but beer and chocolate?"
A land whose specialities include ubiquitous beers and delicate chocolates, Belgium is often perceived to be dull. The image that it's simply a staid haunt for business executives and Eurocrats, or the gateway to the rest of Europe, reinforces the idea. But Belgium is a prime destination if you're interested in countryside, culture, and history, served up alongside a huge proportion of highly acclaimed restaurants serving everything from haute cuisine to moules-frites or Belgian waffles.
Easy to travel around, this pocket-sized country is divided by the Flemish north (Flemish-speaking) and the Walloon south (French-speaking). Brussels, the capital, is the heart of the country and the European Union. Expanding outwards from the brilliant Gothic architecture of the Grand-Place, this cosmopolitan city contains numerous interesting museums and many fine eateries. The Manneken Pis statue is the place to pose for a photograph and laugh incredulously at others doing likewise.
Ostend, in the north, is a popular seaside resort with a long sandy beach, bustling harbour and shops to explore. With its canals and cobbles, thirteenth-century Bruges is one of Europe's finest examples of a medieval town and home to some impressive art collections. Antwerp is renowned for diamonds and throughout all these towns it's difficult to escape the bars and pavement cafés. The south holds great appeal for outdoorsy types - the forested Ardennes is a nature-lover's paradise cut by rivers and gorges where walking opportunities abound. How dull is that?

Bouchout Castle things to see

In the beginning of the 12th century, the troops of the Duke of Brabant came face tot face with the troops of Meise, the 'Milites de Menza'. Both strongholds became water castles surrounded with a park. Meise Castle burnt down totally during the Second World War. Bouchout Castle has been altered many times; only the square tower, the eldest part of the castle, dates of the 14th century. The Empress Charlotte, the sister of King Leopold II, and widow of the executed Emperor of Mexico, lived here almost her entire life. The present architecture dates from 1830, the interior from 1980. Nowadays Bouchout Castle is used for meetings, lectures and exhibitions
