Review this castle
Schonbrunn was supposed to have been the Versailles of the Austrian Empire; but the Hapsburgs were very different from the Kings of France and would never wanted to present themselves to their subjects as gods. Therefore Schronbrunnn was built as both a palace and a summer residence for the numerous families of the rulers. Construction was started at the end of the 17th century, but the history of Schonbrunn had began much earlier than that. It is said that Emperor Mathias II, returning from the hunt one day near the country residence of Katterburg, found a spring of crystal clear water that he called schoner Brunnen (lovely spring). Johann Fischer von Erlach, was commissioned to design the palace and construction began in 1696.The golden age of Schonbrunn began with Maria Teresa of Austria ( 1717-1780) and was only to end with the definite decline of the Hapsburg empire. The empress commissioned court architect Nikolaus von Pacassi with the remaining works, which were completed between 1746 and 1749. he concentrated on the interiors, lightening the original Baroque style with many touches of Rococo. The Great and Small Galleries were completed to be used as receptions and, at Maria Teresa's personal request, a court theater was built as an addition to the original plans. The park too was finally completed and took on the appearance it still has today.

Castle Hotels TREAT YOURSELF
TO A NIGHT OF ROYAL TREATMENT by Pamela L. Barrus On the Origin of Castles and Palaces
When the great English jurist Sir Edward Coke declared back in 1623 that "a man's house is his castle", he couldn't have known what a home in a castle was actually like. By that time, castles were already useless relics left to deteriorate throughout the European countryside.
No one living knows for sure what life was really like in a castle. Poetry and fairy tales have created romantic images of valiant knights who rescue beautiful young maidens from dragons and then live happily ever after in elegant clothes and surroundings while dining at great feasts.
It's a lot of fun to think of castles in this way, but in reality they were built for military purposes: for defense, to store arms, to house troops, and to protect a strategic geographical position. Never designed for comfort, they were dark, confined, and unsanitary, especially during times of siege. (One castle in England was surrendered during a siege in 1088 because the stench inside became overpowering.) Usually the owners preferred living in nearby halls built of wood or stone, with plenty of doors for ventilation (windows weren't happening yet).
Medieval kings seldom had their own castles to live in. Instead, they traveled constantly through the country, squashing rebellions or presiding over courts while staying in whatever castle or hall was available. All costs of feeding such a retinue were borne by the host.

Vienna
Vienna
Vienna's history goes way back to Roman times. Like many cities throughout Europe, it is based on a Roman military settlement called Vindobona. After the decline of the Roman Empire, the remains of this camp developed town under the reign of the Babenberger dynasty. In 1492 it became the seat and capital of the Habsburger's Holy Roman Empire and started growing to the big city it is today.
Nowadays Vienna is the capital of the Austrian Republic, the seat of the government, home to about 1,7 million people and working place for even more residents from around the area.
Vienna is a traditional melting pot for what used to be a multinational empire during the Habsburg monarchy. The immigration of Hungarians, Czechs and Polish people left its influence everywhere, especially on the surnames of many Viennese inhabitants.
Vienna is not only the political, but also the cultural capital of Austria. It offers a wide variety of theater, music, art and cinemas and the cultural tradition of the high art is well known worldwide. Vienna has been home to many famous musicians, like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Hayden, Ludwig van Beethoven and Falco. It is still a very popular stop and living place for artist from around the world.

Review this castle

Last two photos given by Steve Schmidt Steve Schmidt, 34, from Chicago, USA, wrote: I have visited many castles in Holland, Germany, Austria and France, but I believe Kufstein to be one of the most interesting historically. It is also very photogenic. I am a photographer who delights in the details of the architecture and it's attributes; just look at some of the plate metal doorways and the variable level passageways that they are attached to. A must see! Helmut Payr, 19, from Austria wrote: The Festung Kufstein is incredibly big! There are several sections you can visit! In this time the Festung is going to be restored. There is an elevator in it so you haven't go up the stairs. Since last year you have to pay an entrance fee to go up to the Festung! You have and incredibly good view from there! There is a restaurant where you can eat very fine food. There is a museum where you can travel through the history of Kufstein. All in all the Festung is always worth to be visited. Have you visited a castle?

Introduction
Austria, a small country in central Europe, is a scenic wonderland characterized by majestic mountains, crystal-clear lakes, rivers, dense forests and green valleys. Outdoor activities like skiing, hiking and mountain climbing make it a favorite destination for many tourists. Throughout the country are glorious architectural reminders of the once-powerful Hapsburgs (Habsburgs), who dominated central Europe for seven centuries (13 - 20 centuries). The nation has a rich cultural history especially in music home to Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven and others.

15 days/ 14 nights
Introduction Itinerary Tour Photos Registration ITINERARY June 19 - Baden
We’ll meet you at the Vienna airport and transfer you by van to our hotel in Baden. The old spa town of Baden lies on the edge of the rolling hills of the Vienna Woods, in the midst of vineyards and meadows. After assembling bikes, we’ll have time to explore the town and its elegant villas and buildings, all fine examples of the Biedermeier (early 1800’s) architecture. June 20 – Tulln - 39mi, 1000ft, or 56mi 2500ft altitude gain
Immediately upon leaving Baden and the surrounding vineyards, we enter the hilly wooded country of the Wienerwald (Viennese Forest). Most of the day will be spent meandering along shaded winding roads, through tiny villages nestled in the valleys. Even though we are just a few kilometers west of Vienna, the Wienerwald retains a peaceful, uncrowded character. The small but beautiful mountains we are cycling through are the eastern terminus of the mighty Alps chain, which stretch through Switzerland, down through France and Italy, and finally disappear into the Mediterranean Sea. In Heiligenkreuz, be sure to check out the Cistercian abbey, perhaps the best example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture in Austria. We exit the wooded hills to the north through the flat farmland to the charming town of Tulln, sitting on the banks of the Danube River.

Small West Ukrainian town of astonishing history
Berezhany is small town in Western Ukraine, with glorious history. It was part of Austria (1772-1918), Poland (1387-1772, 1920-1939), Fascist Germany (1941-1944), USSR (1939-41, 1944-1991) and after the collapse of Soviet Union, since 1991 it is part of independent Ukraine

Teraz Brzezany w niepodleglej Ukrainie. Archeology of Berezhany: Non-written history of Berezhany goes to thousands of years depth. Archeologists discovered the remains of three settlements which belong to the era of late paleolith. Ancient people settled not far from the banks of Zolota Lypa (Golden Lime Tree) river, at its high, forested and dry banks. At the place of one of this settlements, on the hills of mountain Zvirynets' (Polish name: Zwierzyniec), remains of flint master-shop of ancient times were discovered. Here primary work tool were found (flint knife-like plates, cutter, scratchers etc.) and a great number of remains of flint productivity - nucleuses, balls, plates. Certain flint products were found also at the place of of settlements at the upper flow of Zolota Lypa, at the present territory of Berezhany Brickworks Plant. Archeological findings prove that there was ancient Rus'/Ruthenian settlement for a long time
