Objectives
The program objective is the promotion of Canadian interests abroad. Within the context of the general eligibility guidelines, projects will be assessed on their capacity to demonstrate to foreign audiences Canadian artistic and cultural creativity, innovation and excellence.
International Touring of Contemporary Canadian Art Exhibitions
Financial assistance may be provided to encourage the circulation and better appreciation of Canadian contemporary art abroad, as well as the creation of linkages between Canadian and foreign institutions in this field. Priority is given to projects that:
  • demonstrate the highest standards of artistic quality; respond to a demonstrated interest abroad from a reputable not-for-profit art institution; are part of a long-term strategy including linkages with partner art institutions abroad;

The following are profiles of the type of companies that are the largestemployers of artists and those with which career artists will most oftendeal.* "The job outlook in brief" provides thumbnail sketches ofemployment data for each occupation in the 2002-03 Occupational OutlookHandbook, on which it is based. Nearly all employment estimates arefrom the BLS industry-occupation matrix. Employment growth rates are comparedwith the average for all occupations. The following are projections arefor jobs in art related fields. Opportunities for artists and related workers are expected to show anaverage growth of 20% or about 29,000 jobs. Expanding electronic media andentertainment industries will offer opportunities for animators, illustrators,and graphic artists. Competition for jobs will be keen. Opportunities for designers will grow at a faster than average rateof 21% or 104,000 jobs. Employment growth in this highly competitive occupationwill stem from increased demand for newer, high-technology industrial productsin medicine, transportation, and other industries as well as for Internetand video images. Opportunities for archivists, curators, and museum technicians are expectedto show and average growth of 12% or 2,600 jobs through 2010. Employmentgains from organizatioins' and the public's interest in historical informationare subject to funding cuts, limiting opportunities. Competition is expectedto be keen. Job applicants who have extensive computer skills should havethe best opportunities.

    New Visual Arts Grants Program: The Canada Council for the Arts has approved a new program that changes the way grants are awarded to visual artists, while at the same time continuing its tradition of support for independent artistic research and creation. The new program will also, for the first time, provide two-year grants to allow Canadian visual artists to develop their art and careers. The first deadline for the Project Grant component of the new program (excluding travel grants) will be Dec. 1, 2005 , while the first deadline for Long-Term Grants will be Sept, 2006. There will be four deadlines per year for travel grant applications. The Canada Council's Visual Arts Section will be holding a series of information sessions ( Halifax in Sept) across the country to familiarize visual artists with the new program. Ruth Frost Lorraine Lee Trained to become an art teacher in the early 1970s and taught for several years before going back to art school first in Hobart and then in Sydney where she completed an MFA in Ceramics. Since she returned from France last year and she has been living and working in Sydney. In 1988 she was Artist-in-Residence at the KALA Print Workshop, San Francisco; and, more recently, at the International Print Workshop, Barcelona, Spain. Currently, she teaches part time in Printmaking and Drawing at the Tasmanian School of Art at Hobart. Jon Williamson and Fiona Tabart Both completed a BFA majoring in Printmaking in 1987. Since then they have established a successful screenprinting and graphic design business, Inkpot Studios, operating out of Hobart.
