  • Make a resolution to try a trade school With tuition costs for four-year colleges skyrocketing, what alternatives are available to those who can't afford the high cost of education, or who want a degree quickly? With unemployment rates at an all-time high, what career is recession-proof? The answer: A career in the trade industry. These jobs include real estate sales, chefs, massage therapists, nail technicians, cosmetologists, auto mechanics, plumbers, television and radio broadcasters, electricians and carpenters. And that's just the tip of the trades iceberg. There are many benefits for those interested in a trade career. Most career choices in the trade industry require a two-year Associates degree or fulfillment of hours required by Florida to obtain a license, most of which can be done in months, not years. Trade schools offer flexible day and night classes, and costs are relatively low. Costs usually are inclusive and encompass classes, course materials, license or certification fees, job materials and job-placement services. Mike Thomas, a real estate broker and owner of Internet Reality Brokers, said that trade careers are perfect for people who don't want to invest excessive time and money in universities or larger colleges.
