Career Opportunities for Majors in Natural Resource Management

    Introduction
Natural Resource Management, often categorized with the agricultural or environmental sciences, provides an understanding of how natural living systems function and how they can be managed to provide benefits to people. Students may pursue course work that prepares them for traditional careers in resource management, or they may take a broader array of courses that meets interests related to the conservation of natural resources and specific areas of concentration such as ecology, wildlife or fisheries. A broad background in natural resource management, however, is appropriate preparation for resource management professionals. Both practical (internship) experience and the development of basic computer application competency in the field are required. A bachelor's degree is sufficient for most advanced technician positions in a wide variety of organizations. As one progresses in the field an advanced degree might be required. While most natural resource management majors work in related occupations and eventually obtain advanced degrees, others choose different directions. Many careers do not require a specific major, but rather a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments. Regardless of your career choices, increase your marketability to employers through internships, responsible work experience, good grades, and involvement in college activities.
