Personnel with language skills are needed in many different types and places of work. The demand is apparent in seven major areas: Foreign Service, Translation, Aid Agencies, Overseas Dependents' Schools, Radio, U. S. Armed Forces 3. Teaching 5. Media 7. Services The types of companies needing management and sales personnel with foreign language skills cover the whole spectrum of the business world. In their operations, they find that foreign language proficiency is an enormous advantage, both in the United States and in their overseas offices, and lack of it a real handicap.  International advertising is a highly specialized activity. Its prime purpose, of course, is to promote the sale of American products overseas. Overview Secretarial/Clerical
This study was conducted to establish a model for assisting the career development of NASA's secretarial and support staff. The information collected in this study was used to determine the sequence of positions, experiences, responsibilities, education and training that may be desirable or required at each point in a secretary's/clerical's career progression. In addition, individuals who left the secretarial field were also interviewed to identify the bridges they used to other career paths.
How Will This Guide Help Me? This study produced four products that are critical factors in a secretaries career development structure: Existing patterns of development (career paths).

Promising Job Prospects for Media Studies Graduates
‘A degree is a passport to worthwhile employment’ A first degree in Media Studies is a certain passport to professional employment according to a new report, ‘What do Graduates do? 2001’, published today (Tuesday 9 January). The report examines the first destinations of the1999 UK graduate cohort and reveals that, of the 76.4 per cent of Media Studies graduates who found work within six months of graduation, 54.2 per cent, achieved jobs of professional status, ie a job requiring a degree or equivalent academic qualification. Of these employed graduates, 17.3 per cent found professional employment in marketing, sales, PR and advertising occupations, 11.8 per cent as commercial, industrial and public sector managers and 14.8 per cent as media, literary, design and sports professionals. Just over a fifth, 22.7 per cent of employed Media Studies graduates had non- graduate jobs in other clerical and secretarial occupations – a common entry point for graduates into media and marketing professions. Around one in ten, 8.3 per cent, of Media Studies graduates went on to further education or training, whilst seven per are believed to be unemployed – slightly higher than the overall graduate average of 5.5 per cent.
