Navy Pilots
You may find yourself banking your plane into a sharp left turn, then lining up with the carrier deck while you drop just the right amount of speed and altitude. It’s "hook down, wheels down" as you approach the carrier flight deck. As your wheels touch down, you’ll throttle forward to full power. At the same time, your tailhook grabs the arresting cable, slamming you to a complete stop. Naval Flight Officer
Imagine the skills and concentration needed to land a jet onboard an aircraft carrier deck pitching in the black of night or to track a submarine while flying just 200 feet above stormy seas. Naval Flight Officers (NFOs) are the key to successful mission accomplishment. Aviation and Aerospace
Since the beginning of time, man has been intrigued by flight and the cosmos. Today that fascination has turned into an industry that annually generates more than $40 billion in exports and $30 billion in positive balance of trade for the U.S. In fact, aeronautics is one of the nation's strongest industries, employing almost one million Americans.
From the establishment of NASA's space center at Cape Canaveral in the mid 60's, Florida has been recognized as the center of the world's aviation and aerospace industry. Currently, the area boasts a variety of leaders in this industry including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman.
Already, Florida companies account for more than $6 billion in contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and $4 billion awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. But, due to increasing competition for these jobs from regions both inside the U.S. and abroad, the Council and FAAA are working together to continue to attract, retain and grow aviation and aerospace companies to the region.
One of the greatest challenges that the area will face in the coming years is the need for additional engineers and technicians. To meet this need, the Council will continue to focus on supporting the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida's schools of engineering.

Aviation Training in America When one traditionally thinks of graduate degree programs, aviation may not immediately come to mind. Likewise, when one thinks of aviation careers, graduate degrees may not come to mind. But when one combines the idea of education and aviation, there is only one conclusion - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. On December 17, 1925, exactly 22 years after the historic flight of the Wright Flyer, barnstormer John Paul Riddle and entrepreneur T. Higbee Embry founded the Embry-Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. The following spring, the company opened the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University began with a simple plan to train airplane pilots in a thorough, efficient manner, based on a booming post-World War I interest in flying. Today, Embry-Riddle leads the world in aviation and aerospace higher education. Embry-Riddle has created a unique combination of graduate degree programs, which are specifically aviation-related, drawing upon links within high technology industry. On the Daytona Beach campus, the Master of Aeronautical Science, Master of Business Administration in Aviation, Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Master of Software Engineering, and Executive Master of Business Administration programs enroll nearly 300 students. On the Prescott, Arizona campus, students can enroll in the Master of Science in Safety Science program.

Careers in Aerospace
What is aerospace?
The aerospace industry is responsible for designing, manufacturing, operating and maintaining civil, military and dual-use aircraft, spacecraft and their respective parts (eg: engines, flight instruments, landing gears). Basically, aerospace is anything that has to do with aircraft and spacecraft. The industry relies heavily on electronics. Frequent advances in electronics mean constant changes in the aerospace industry. Computer aided design and manufacture (CAD and CAM) has brought about major changes in aircraft production. The time required for operations has been cut; often by more than half. Investment in research and development ( ) has introduced new materials and advanced ways for improving the understanding of aerodynamics . In turn, this helps improve the performance and efficiency of aircraft.
Aerospace Industry's Structure
In general, the Canadian Aerospace industry includes:
  • aircraft and engine manufacturing components and parts manufacturing aircraft maintenance airframe repair and overhaul avionics electronics and information systems precise machining and metal fabrication composites and exotic metals component production specialty coatings space satellites simulation training testing consulting services
Aerospace also includes airlines, military, civil aviation and other buyers and users of aerospace goods and services.
