GUIDANCE PROGRAM EVALUATION
Guidance program evaluation asks two questions. First, is there a written guidance program in the school district? And second, is the written guidance program the actual implemented program in the buildings of the district? PSAT Registration Information Program Overview Background Since the 1980's, experts in the field have written extensively about redesigning school counseling programs into a comprehensive developmental format. To implement a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program promoting student success through a focus on academic achievement, prevention and intervention activities, advocacy and social/emotional and career development. Developmental Approach Integral to the Comprehensive School Counseling Model is the developmental approach. It is an attempt to identify certain life skills and experiences that students need to have as a part of their going to school and preparing for adulthood. In the developmental approach, students have an opportunity to learn more about themselves and others in advance of problem moments in their lives. They learn interpersonal skills before they have an interpersonal crisis. If a crisis situation does happen, they can draw upon their skills to address their problem. The developmental perspective recognizes that every student needs sound emotional and social skills to achieve optimum benefit from the educational program. There is a commitment to individual uniqueness and the maximum development in three major areas:

Career Support Services Career decision-making is a process that involves time, self-study, and planning. Too often, it is assumed that a decision regarding a career or educational major can be made quickly or on the basis of some test. Instead, students need to develop their ability to make good decisions, clarify their understanding of themselves, and enrich their knowledge of work possibilities in the world. When students develop these career planning skills, they are in a better position to make informed decisions regarding their educational majors and potential careers. Accessing Services Career Counseling Professionally-trained counselors assist students individually regarding vocational and educational concerns.
