“The Rap: On Capital Punishment”
This subject is very controversial but the name of my game is to address any issue with complete honesty and the ability to explain my thinking. Many times, I find that a discussion on capital punishment is confused by the introduction of other issues, which doesn’t allow us to be able to view capital punishment in absolute terms. The most controversial issue of our time, “Abortion; Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life,” has practically nothing to do with capital punishment, yet is always presented as evidence of convoluted thinking by specific Americans.
Here’s the way Capital Punishment is implemented in the United States:
• My Experience as a Teacher
The subject I taught at a Brooklyn Intermediate School was “Law.” Some of you may laugh because you know I was teaching a relatively heavy subject to children in Grades 6, 7, and 8. It was listed as a “minor pool,” the equivalent of an elective that one opts for in College. There wasn’t a real curriculum although others had taught it before and turned it into; teacher lectures, students listen and take notes, and teacher leads a regulated group discussion in the classroom, type of class.

Abstract
From the Paper:

"Abortion is one of the most heated debates in both the political and social arena. "Abortion" refers to any premature expulsion of a human fetus, whether naturally spontaneous, as in a miscarriage, or artificially induced, as in a surgical or chemical abortion. (NRLC Educational Trust Fund pamphlet, 1996). Before the Supreme Court ruling in 1973 in the Roe v. Wade case abortion was considered illegal in United States. Under Roe vs. Wade, in 1973 in United States abortion was made legal. The Supreme Court made abortions legal in all 50 states during all nine months of pregnancy, which could be for medical, social or any other reason. When abortion was made legal it received the approval of society and along with that clinics sprang up everywhere, with information being provided everywhere about places of abortion providers." ASC183 Presentation
Should New York Executions be Televised ? There are many questions that must be answered before a decision can be made if New York should televise its executions. First question that must be addressed, is whether or not we should enforce and even carry out capital punishment. If we do, what affects will it have on society? The second question that must be addressed is if the executions should be televised and what kind of impact will it have on society? These questions are very difficult to answer because both have strong points to this ongoing debate. The so-called " death penalty " has been around since the ancient Greek times, when Socrates was summoned to drink the cup of hemlock, for having criticized the tyranny of Critias, the oppressor or Athens. Today only The United States and Turkey enforce executions. "3/4 of the U.S. population agree with the use of capital punishment". (#2, pg.44) To understand more about capital punishment, especially in New York, we must understand the legal requirements and judicial procedures to be summoned to executions. Then we will see the different methods used to carry out the executions. And finally, measure the pros and cons it has on society. The only criminals who are subjected to the death penalty are capital offenders. Capital offenders are the criminals who commit murder. These criminals go to court. If they are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by 12 of their peers, they are sentenced a to life term. Then there is a second trial that decides if they should receive the death penalty (this is for the 38 states that have the death penalty). They must be seen as committing the act in an "aggravating and Mitigating way at the time of the act". (#1,pg.475) If they are sentenced to death, they are placed on death row where they wait for an appeal by the Supreme Court or wait for death by execution. This procedure is followed by all states that carry the death penalty including New York. On Tuesday, March 7,1995 George Pataki signed a bill to make New York the 38

This is Tonya's E306 class. We are here to present our sides of the capital punishment issue. From left to right we are Jon, Frankie, Dustin, Jessica, Jana, Leslie, Edward, Abel. Feel free to click on our face to see some personal thoughts and feels toward capital punishment. Just for fun, EMail one of us with your opinion: FOR or AGAINST.
Background/Intro
Each year there are about 250 people added to death row and 35 executed. The death penalty is the harshest form of punishment enforced in the United Sates today. Once a jury has convicted a criminal offense they go to the second part of the trial, the punishment phase. If the jury recommends the death penalty and the judge agrees then the criminal will face some form of execution, lethal injection is the most common form used today. There was a period from 1972 to 1976 that capital punishment was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Their reason for this decision was that the death penalty was cruel and unusual punishment under the eighth amendment. The decision was reversed when new methods of execution were introduced.
Capital punishment is a difficult issue and there are as many different opinions as there are people. In our project, both sides have been presented and argued with focus on several topics as listed below. This page was constructed to show the different opinions held by the members of our group. There is plenty of useful information within our work. We hope you find it helpful and informative.

Polls consistently show that between 60 % and 70 % of Canadians want the Death Penalty reinstated in Canada. In Britain, opinion polls have shown that between two-thirds and three-quarters of the population favors the Death Penalty. In Italy, roughly half the population wants Capital Punishment reinstated. In France, clear majorities continue to back the Death Penalty long after it was abolished in 1981. In the US, During the temporary suspension on capital punishment from 1972-1976, the murder rate doubled. With the increased use of the Death Penalty, the murder rate is now at its lowest level in the US since 1966.
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
INTRODUCTION:
Putting to death people judged to have committed certain extremely heinous crimes is a practice of ancient standing, but in the United States in the latter half of the twentieth century, it has become a very controversial issue. Changing views on this difficult issue and many legal challenges to capital punishment working their way through the courts resulted in a halt to executions in the United States in 1967. Eventually, the Supreme Court placed a moratorium on capital punishment in 1972 but later upheld it in 1977, with certain conditions.

Death penalty Focus on the Death Penalty
Though the federal government and 38 of the 50 states have death penalty laws, and public opinion polls in the last decade have generally indicated that the majority of Americans favor capital punishment, organizations and sites advocating the abolition of the death penalty are more common and easily found on the World Wide Web than organizations and sites favoring retention of the death penalty . That more anti than pro-death penalty sites are listed on this page is due to that reality, and should not be construed to indicate the Justice Center's advocacy of either a pro or con position on the death penalty.

Except in the case of self defense their is no ethical reason why humans should kill one another. Case studies are shown as examples. These studies include Karla Faye Tucker, Susie Jaeger, and Dr. Kevorkian. Easier - Capital punishment is the penalty or sentence of death for committing a crime. Harder - Since the beginning of the nineteenth century, most executions in the United States have resulted from murder convictions. However, the sentence of death has been imposed for such serious crimes as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and treason. People disagree about whether capital punishment is moral or if it is effective in discouraging crime. Many oppose the death penalty because they consider it cruel. Critics also believe that there is a risk of executing mistakenly convicted people. Supporters of the death penalty believe that in some instances, people who take another human life deserve to forfeit their own lives. Many supporters also argue that the threat of death discourages crime.
