Can women pass breast cancer on to their children? ... Who else can help? What does it all mean? Every year, thousands of women are told that they have breast cancer. It affects women of all ages, races and social classes. It is very common; about one in twelve women over the course of their lifetime will have the disease. Being told you have breast cancer is very frightening. It is a condition which is very difficult to understand and has a bewildering number of different treatments. This booklet has been written especially for you and your family. It provides some information about the disease and its treatment. We hope it will help you and your family to understand the disease and the types of treatment available. Back to top
What is breast cancer?
The breasts are made up of many glands which are lined by tiny building blocks called cells, which can produce milk. For a reason that is not yet properly understood, sometimes one of these cells gets out of control and it can then produce a lump or tumour. In some women it can take a very long time for the tumour to appear - usually three or four years, sometimes even longer than that. Tumours can be either benign or malignant. Benign (or innocent) tumours remain growing in one area and cannot spread. Malignant tumours are made of cancer cells which can spread to other parts of the body through the blood stream or the lymphatic system (this is explained later). There they can form new tumours called a recurrence, secondaries or metastases.

L I V E R C A N C E R
Hepatocellular carcinoma, also called malignant hepatoma, is a primary form of liver cancer that originates in the hepatocyte cells of the liver. Hepatocellular carcinoma is the 5th most common type of cancer worldwide with nearly 500,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Approximately 19,000 cases of primary liver cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States and affects males more than females by a ratio of about 3:1.
Major risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma include cirrhosis of the liver, chronic infection with the Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C virus, exposure to aflatoxins that can contaminate certain crops, hereditary hemochromatosis, and primary biliary cirrhosis.
Unfortunately, the early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma is difficult because most people with early-stage disease do not exhibit clinical symptoms of the disease. By the time symptoms do develop, the disease has already progressed to a more advanced stage. Signs and symptoms of hepatocellular carcinoma may include abdominal pain, enlargement of the liver and spleen, unintentional weight loss, jaundice, and generalized weakness and fatigue.
The treatment options for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma depend upon a variety of factors including the stage of the disease, location of the tumor, and how well or poorly the liver is functioning. In general, the treatment options for hepatocellular carcinoma can be grouped into those treatments that are intended to be curative and those that are intended to be palliative meaning that they do not cure the underlying disease but rather control the symptoms of the disease. The only known curative treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma are surgical resection and liver transplantation. Palliative treatment options include radiofrequency thermal ablation, percutaneous ethanol injection, cryosurgery, hepatic arterial embolization, and systemic chemotherapy.

    What Causes Skin Cancer?
    Sunburn and Sunlight
Very simply, sunburn and UV light can damage your skin, and this damage can lead to skin cancer. There are of course other determining factors, including your heredity and the environment you live in. However, both the total amount of sun received over the years, and overexposure resulting in sunburn can cause skin cancer. Most people receive 80% of their lifetime exposure to the sun by 18 years of age. The message to parents from this is to

Oral Cancer
Each year, more than 30,000 new cases of cancer of the oral cavity and pharynx are diagnosed and over 8,000 deaths due to oral cancer occur. The 5-year survival rate for these cancers is only about 50 percent. Mortality from oral cancer is nearly twice as high in some minorities (especially black males) as it is in whites. Methods used to treat oral cancers (surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy) are disfiguring and costly. Preventing high risk behaviors, that include cigarette, cigar or pipe smoking, use of smokeless tobacco, and excessive use of alcohol are critical in preventing oral cancers. Early detection is key to increasing the survival rate for these cancers.

General information with some alternative therapy discussion. Provides link to a support group.
http://www.cancer-info.com/analcanc.htm
Description of Anal Cancer Anal cancer, an uncommon cancer, is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the anus. The anus is the opening at the end of the rectum (the end part of the large intestine) through which body waste passes. Cancer in the outer part of the anus is more likely to occur in men; cancer of the inner part of the rectum (anal canal) is more likely to occur in women. If your anus is often red, swollen, and sore, you have a greater chance of getting anal cancer. Tumors found in the area of skin with hair on it just outside the anus are skin tumors, not anal cancer. Like most cancers, anal cancer is best treated when it is found (diagnosed) early. You should see your doctor if you have one or more of the following symptoms: bleeding from the rectum (even a small amount), pain or pressure in the area around the anus, itching or discharge from the anus, or a lump near the anus. If you have signs of cancer, your doctor will usually examine the outside part of the anus and give you a rectal examination. In a rectal examination, your doctor, wearing thin gloves, puts a greased finger into the rectum and gently feels for lumps. Your doctor may also check any material on the glove to see if there is blood in it. If you feel pain when touched in the anal area, your doctor may give you medicine to put you to sleep (general anesthesia) in order to continue the examination. Your doctor may cut out a small piece of tissue and look at it under a microscope to see if there are any cancer cells. This procedure is called a biopsy.
