Sophos Ranks 19th in 2004 Deloitte Canadian Fast 50
Lynnfield, MA - Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against spam and viruses, announced that it has ranked 19th in Deloitte's prestigious Canadian Technology Fast 50 program. The list ranks the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Canada based on percentage of revenue growth over the past 5 years. The global expansion of Canada's fastest growing technology companies is evident by the revealed source of their impressive revenue growth. For Fiscal year 2003-2004, Sophos's bookings grew 42 percent worldwide and 82 percent in North America over the previous year, demonstrating the company's continued ability to capture market share and secure its overall market position. The acquisition of ActiveState in September 2003 gave Sophos a stronger competitive edge in the North American market as the first company to provide a single source anti-virus, anti-spam and email policy product for the email gateway. This has resulted in rapid customer adoption and 46 percent contribution to overall company growth, up from 24 percent last year. Since the acquisition, Sophos has increased its employee base by 80 percent to nearly 900 today. Thirty percent of that growth has been in North America. Sophos continues on its 15-year track record of reporting consecutive years of steady growth and profit. "We are delighted to be recognized for our consistent growth and achievements," said Steve Munford, president of Sophos, Inc., based in Vancouver Canada. "The dramatic increase in spam and virus activity and the convergence of these threats has led to market demand for single source solutions that integrate email gateway and desktop protection and we intend to maintain our leadership position."

New material added since last revision is in colored type. Beth's 17 Selections from "Cowtown" Calgary The background experience of Beth Candlish is mainly agricultural, through education, practical farming, research and information retrieval. As a Commissioner and Research Scientist at the Canadian Grain Commission, an information researcher with the Canada Grains Council, and a Research Associate at the University of Manitoba, I gained a variety of information retrieval expertise. My formal education consists of a PhD from the University of Manitoba in Plant Biochemistry and Animal Nutrition, a M.Sc. in Plant Biochemistry from the same University. Macdonald College, McGill University, was where my formal agricultural education began with a B.Sc (Agr.) specializing in Animal Nutrition with a minor in Agricultural Economics. Since 1978 I have been self-employed as Beth Candlish PhD, except for the years from late 1981 to early 1986 when I was a Commissioner at the Canadian Grain Commission. Spare time activities include involvement with the Liberal Party, flying a Cessna 172, photography and travelling to keep in touch with my family on Hornby Island, B.C., Victoria, B.C., Oakville, and Peterborough, ON. One lives in Calgary, I moved here to reduce the number of places to which I had to travel to 4!

My First Macintosh
comment September 2nd, 2005 in technology Her name is Anna. She is one week old and weighs 4.6 pounds. Ever since she arrived in my life we have been inseparable. We watch movies together, listen to music, and chat with friends. I take her with me to work, we go biking together and I keep her near while I work. She illuminates my bedroom with her ghostly white ghostly glow that keeps me a wake while I try to sleep and I keep her nice and clean while spoiling her with expensive toys, like, say, an expensive mouse? Exorbitant pricing aside, Mac OX Tiger is very pleasant to use, with its large, colourful and bubbly icons and windows. Though, after using Windows for ten years, it took a while to become accustomed to Macintosh’s way of doing things. I remember Apple briefly having something like the Windows “start” button under their “Apple” menu, but it seems to have been replaced by the “Dock”—a collection of frequently used applications that remain stationary at the bottom of my screen at all times. (Though it can easily be configured to be a vertical menu on either side of my screen or hidden all together). Another nifty Apple feature allows for two fingers on a touchpad to be used for vertical, horizontal and diagonal scrolling. The keyboard is supposedly full sized, but it doesn’t feel that way. Compared to other notebook keyboards I have used, the iBook keyboard is usable enough for what it is, but a centimeter too short in length to be a real full sized keyboard. And all though I would really like to have that extra centimeter, I would be sacrificing the appeal of the iBook—it’s size. It’s very easy to lug around and rests comfortable on my lap for long periods of use. I was initially worried that the 12inch screen would strain my eyes with resolutions usually used for 17inch monitors (1024 x 768 pixels), but the screen displays very smooth text that is actually more readable than what I am accustomed to on desktop displays. In fact, I often forget I am using such a small screen until I am looking at my little notebook on my desk from afar.

Canadian Western Agribition unveiled its 2005 poster and campaign theme on April 15, 2005 at its Annual General Meeting. This year's poster, as pictured on the right, portrays excitement, emotion, freshness and professionalism. It captures the essence of what takes place at Agribition, from livestock to tradeshow to rodeo, it captures it all, while also displaying the emotion and thrill of the show. The theme, "Experience. Opportunity." is very fitting for this year's show, as it encompasses two of the major elements that Agribition is all about. Agribition 2005 will prove to be both an experience and an opportunity to every person that comes through the gates.
CANADA'S PREMIER AGRICULTURAL SHOW AND MARKETPLACE
Canadian Western Agribition is one of North America's largest and best known agricultural marketplaces. Annually, over 4,000 head of livestock including purebred beef, commercial and dairy cattle, heavy and light horses, sheep, goats, llamas, and bison are on display during the six day show.
