So [End Page 362] A Military History of Canada , which appeared in 1986, are already obsolete. In 1999 Marc Milner published his long-awaited synthesis of the new writings in Canadian naval history. Milner wove most of the recent scholarship on naval history into an important new history, which demonstrated what could be accomplished using recent scholarship. Now Jack Granatstein, one of Canada's most influential military historians, has done the same for the Canadian army. Granatstein has made excellent use of the works of historians like Carman Miller, Bill Rawlings, Terry Copp, Stephen Harris, Bill McAndrew, and John English, to name but a few. He has added his own indefatigable and indomitable voice, which challenges...

By the time the armistice of 27 July 1953 ended the fighting in Korea, most Canadians had a fading memory of that three-year-old conflict. But Canada's "Forgotten War," as it became known, deserved no such a fate. Now only with the appearance of this book fifty years after the closing event, is the complete story being told. And how interesting it is. [End Page 648] examines tactics, operations, training, recruiting and leadership. Canadian Nurses in the South African Military Nursing Service: Some Reminiscences Forty Years Later
by Charlotte S.M. Girard Late in 1941 and early in 1942 some Canadian nurses found themselves serving the armed forces in areas far removed from any foreseeable battle site. A group, eventually to number some three hundred nurses, was to serve neither with the Canadian forces nor with the British, but with those of Canada's sister dominion, South Africa. Many warm memories have remained, many strong ties are still unbroken by time and the links between South Africa and Canada have been maintained both by contacts between Canadian nurses who married and remained in Africa and their Canadian friends who have visited them. The unusually close esprit de corps is reflected in a newsletter which was published up to August 1972: The Ontario Springbok News Letter of Canadian Nursing Sisters serving in South Africa, 1939-1945. (1) In addition, many of these nurses continue to meet at least once a year and thus maintain the old camaraderie of the war years.

Hi everyone! Before you enter my world I would just like to say a few things. I have changed this site around in hopes that it would be easier to find things...please write me and tell me what you think.
I would also like to take a few minutes to tell you that I'm only a SPOUSE of the military. I know that this site wears the "CPL" name, and that my email addy has "cpl" in it, but I am NOT in the military.
This site is something that I have thought up of, I hope it seems fresh to you. There's a lot of great military spouse sites out there, and it's hard to be original :)
I would also like to thank all of you that have sent in poems, links and deployment tips. Without you this site wouldn't be as informative as it is. I hope that it's also an interesting site.
Now with that being said, grab a cup of coffee, sit back click on my rose and have fun surfing my site. Be sure to tell others about this. Did I mention that it's a CANADIAN Military Website? O.k I just did...but you'll also find States links, which are great, even if you don't live there.

In addition, the Canadian Army Overseas used a wide variety of miscellaneous British and American hard- and soft-skin vehicles. The categories below display history, specifications and photographs of many of these vehicles. We try to capture the essence of this era through cataloging restored examples wherever possible. This will also include examples of the restoration process. Obviously but happily, this will be an unending job, so please check back regularly as new examples are added and new categories activated. Peacekeeping and International Stability Operations
With the collapse of the WARSAW PACT in 1989 the world situation changed. The threat of world wide nuclear war was suddenly reduced as the USSR fragmented and its international influence was severely reduced. Unfortunately, losing the super power "moderating" influences let many client states loose. Wars, civil disturbances and governmental collapses have increased dramatically and PEACEKEEPING AND PEACE MAKING have become the major global business. Canadian forces are now even more heavily committed in the service of peace than ever before. The list that follows, while not comprehensive, outlines some of the broad areas where Canadian troops have been employed in peacekeeping/stability operations over the past 100 years; over 30 of these missions have been under a United Nations mandate.
CANADA'S FIRST PEACEKEEPING MISSION
KOREA
Responding to the 25 June 1950 invasion of South Korea, Canada sent transport aircraft, three destroyers and an infantry brigade group to help restore peace.

The Military Nurses of Canada is a 3-volume compilation of personal recollections of Canadian military nurses from World War I to present day active duty nurses. Included is a history of the beginning of Canadian military nursing during the 1885 North West Rebellion. The books are edited by Edith Landells, a military nurse during World War II, who chose to compile the books as a retirement project. She used personal interviews and War Diaries at the National Archives, Ottawa and relied on Nursing Sisters Associations and word of mouth to reach military nurses in every Canadian province. Volume 1 was released in 1995, the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. Volumes 2 and 3 were released on 15 March 1999 and carry additional recollections and historical reports from all eras of Canadian military nursing. Volumes 2 and 3 add over 800 pages to Canadian military history with hundreds of photographs.
