The Canadian Literature Research Service (CLRS) offers researchers specialized reference, research, advisory and bibliographic services and prepares material for exhibitions on Canadian literature and literary publishing and reading lists featuring selected Canadian authors and themes in Canadian literature. In addition, CLRS develops electronic products designed to provide access to Canadian literature via the Internet. Canadian literature is one of the National Library's three areas of special emphasis, and our holdings in this subject area are rich and varied, making the Library an excellent resource for the study of Canadian literature and literary publishing. The Canadian Literature Research Service is based on the National Library's collections of books by Canadian writers (including popular literature such as science fiction, fantasy, detective fiction and romance), reference works in various media, small magazines and literary periodicals, Canadian children's literature rare books , spoken-word recordings, selected newspapers , and government documents . One theme that recurs in various guises in Canadian literature is that of the relation between the human and natural worlds, and considerable attention has been dedicated to this issue in my lessons. Students following my course on Canadian Literature, or intending to do so in the future, are therefore advised to read the following article: David Lucking, "Straight Lines in a Curved Space: The Order/Disorder Dichotomy in Anglo-Canadian Literature".
