For Excellence in Teaching Canadian History
The GGA annually salutes history teachers in the classrooms of our nation who have inspired and challenged students to explore Canada's past.
Georgina McMurchy-Barber
Gina McMurchy-Barber's approach to teaching Canadian history begins with concrete experiences and materials that lead to abstract learning. For each history unit she creates board games, puzzles, timelines or matching exercises for her students, ages 6 to 9. By far her most popular lessons are where students learn history through singing, dancing and acting. Music of different historical periods, combined with plays she writes for her classes, form the foundation of her approach that engenders a love and appreciation for history.

It seems the whole province is celebrating Bill Waiser and his new book. And rightly so. Saskatchewan: A New History is the University's official centenary gift to the people of Saskatchewan.
The official book launch was held Tuesday, September 6th amidst the renewed splendour of the just-re-opened Convocation Hall. On behalf of the people of Saskatchewan, Andrew Thomson, Government of Saskatchewan Minister of Learning, accepted the book from President Mackinnon before a large and delighted crowd. It was the sort of event the authors of the official bicentennial history (we know you're reading this) will want to recount in 2105.

    . . . a Canadian journal of non-Canadian history
The Canadian Journal of History/Annales canadiennes d'histoire is published in April, August, and December . It is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal of international stature published at the University of Saskatchewan since 1966. The Journal publishes high-quality articles, historiographical articles, review articles, and reviews concerning all countries and periods of history - excepting the history of Canada , which we leave to other Canadian journals.
    A Journal of History
The Canadian Journal of History publishes general history articles and reviews by scholarly specialists in their fields of research, intended for the specialist historian of any field. Leading scholars have bemoaned the "fragmentation" of academic understanding today. Historians can barely keep up with the fast pace of new research in their own specialized fields how are they to keep up in others? The Canadian Journal of History offers one way to do so, by publishing articles and reviews in every field of history: European, Asian, African, and American; intellectual, social, legal, and diplomatic; ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary. The only field we do not cover is the history of Canada itself.
