Can you believe it? I have finally taken some time to update my website. Nothing major, but just a small update to let you all know I'm still in Korea as of February 2003. I have lots of plans in the works, so please stay tuned for a big update!.
Welcome to my webpage with all the information about my new and exciting adventures living in Korea. I have now been in Korea almost 3 years - unbelievable as I originally only planned to be here one year. Alas, here I am 3 years later.
I apologize for the lack of updates lately, but I have been very busy. It seems I always apologize for lack of updates, but perhaps it's because I am accustomed to life in Korea and nothing surprises me anymore. I better take that back because there is always something that arises when I least expect it.
For any doubters, I was SUCCESSFUL in my squat pot challenge. In fact, I have now lasted almost 3 years without using the dreaded pot and I am STILL determined to last the ENTIRE time in Korea without using one.
For those of you who don't know, I have a boyfriend I've been seeing for the past year. He's a great guy and we have a wonderful relationship. (Roger, if you're reading this, you were right.)

Terry Fox Runs
One person can make a difference. When Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope run across Canada on April 12, 1980 his goal was to raise $1 for every person in Canada for cancer research. That would have been about $24 million in 1980. The Terry Fox Foundation says that in the last 25 years more than $360 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name. Just yesterday, Ujjal Dosanjh, the Canadian federal Minister of Health, gave a $10-million grant from the Public Health Agency of Canada to the Terry Fox Foundation. And the marathon continues....

Media and Canadian Cultural Policies Chronology Culture is the very soul of our society, in the sense that it reflects our beliefs and convictions, our way of life and our perception of the world around us. The Ties That Bind , The Report of the Standing Committee on Culture and Communications, 1992 Canada's struggle to protect its identity dates back to the introduction of commercial radio broadcasting in the 1920s. At that time, Canadian politicians and public leaders were concerned that U.S. radio programming would dominate Canadian airwaves. These concerns led to the formation of the first Royal Commission on media in 1929. This commission, called the Aird Commission on Radio Broadcasting, recommended the creation of a national broadcaster (now the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) to promote Canada's national cultural identity.

Update: Please Note: Development of the Cultural Profiles is now complete.
  • No more country profiles are being created. No more hard (print) copies are available for distribution.
To print any of the profiles download the Adobe Acrobat PDF version that can be found in the main menu for each country. You may only download and print materials for non-commercial, educational use. Citizenship and Immigration Canada provides Host Program funding to non profit organizations to recruit Canadian volunteer hosts and match them with new immigrants to Canada. The purpose of the match is to assist the newcomer to adapt quickly to life in Canada as well as provide the host with an appreciation of the challenges that the newcomer faces. Each cultural profile provides an overview of life and customs in the profiled country. While the profile provides insight into some customs, it does not cover all facets of life, and the customs described may not apply in equal measure to all newomers from the profiled country. These cultural profiles were developed in association with the AMNI Centre at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto.
