PCCWeb The Web THE CHURCH IN ACTION Observe International Day of Prayer for Peace
September 21 For the second consecutive year, the World Council of Churches invites all its member churches and, in fact, all church communities around the world, to observe an International Day of Prayer for Peace on Sept. 21. That day is the United Nations International Day of Peace on which an ever-growing number of people worldwide are praying for peace and observing vigils in their communities. For Christians it is appropriate to join the concern and desire of humanity for peace and nonviolence by applying their most consistent way of intervening in this world's affairs ... and that is through prayer. Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, said: "As Christians, we can join with one another in prayer, even though we may not agree on my things concerning the world's affairs. Christian spirituality is not a call to retreat from social action and public life. As injustice and violence grow and for many of us intrude our communities and homes, we have increased reason to pray with and for one another and for our world. Authentic prayer is not only effective, it is beautiful. It shows us the beauty of peaceful community. Prayer increases our inclination to work together in peace and justice."

A list of some of the things we personally look for in a church is contained in the article "Marks of Things We Look for in Churches." * The single asterisk * designates churches that other people have recommended to us as being in line with the things we look for. Please understand that churches which have the single asterisk are given that designation based on information we receive from others and are not based on firsthand knowledge of the church. For the most part, these are not churches that I am familiar with personally. * The double asterisk ** designates churches that I personally recommend. The churches that are listed without an asterisk are churches that either are not known personally to us as to their position or are churches that are not like-minded in some major area such as Bible versions or music or separation. When we learn of serious problems with a church we either take it off the list completely or include a warning describing the problem. If you know of a serious problem with any of the churches, do not hesitate to inform us of the matter.

Submission by ex-gay Anglicans:
A group of conservative Anglicans sent an open letter to the General Synod . They identified themselves as: " ....Canadian Anglicans who were once active in the homosexual lifestyle..., " and Others who " have struggled with exclusively same-sex attractions. " Because the success rate of therapy focused on changing a client's sexual orientation appears to have a failure rate in excess of 99.5%, we assumed that none of the authors of the letter was able to change their sexual orientation to heterosexual. That is: The former have a bisexual orientation, but have chosen to abandon sexual activity with persons of the same sex, and The latter have a homosexual orientation and have decided to become, as they wrote, " celibate by choice ." However, this may not be so. We received an Email from one of the authors of this letter who states that a successful personal transition was personally accomplished, from a homosexual orientation to a heterosexual orientation. The open letter stated that they "

There's another wrinkle: Even if officials allow Garcia to remain in Canada, he faces at least one death threat from fellow Guatemalan-Canadians - if they can confirm who he really is. And that's the nub.

Churches have one of two types of sound systems. One type of system competes with a room —undermining the worship service. Feedback, deadspots, distortion and poor intelligibility are unwanted sound effects that church audiences shouldn't be assaulted with. These systems are designed and installed with good intentions and there are many variations of them.
The other type of sound system is one that compliments the room and there are many variations of them too. However, when a church has room problems, no sound system can function beyond the performance of the worship space. Sadly, many churches are replacing well designed sound systems with the latest and greatest technology in hopes the next sound system will be better - only to be disappointed after the novelty wears out.
Good sound in a church requires a foundation and that foundation begins with acoustics. Ignoring acoustics condemns every sound system to a life of mediocrity and constant upgrading that often costs much more than the cost of fixing the room.

June 3, 2004 St Catharines, Ont. - Deeply divided over liberalizing church attitudes toward homosexuals, Canadian Anglicans meeting at their triennial governing convention here voted to defer a decision on whether gay relationships should be blessed in church. Members of the General Synod approved a revised version of a resolution that originally would have given dioceses the authority to allow same-sex blessing ceremonies. The new version asks the Primate's Theological Commission to "review, consider and report by spring 2006 whether the blessing of committed, same-sex unions is a matter of doctrine." Established in 1995, the Primate's Theological Commission has studied questions of biblical interpretation and produced several books on Anglican expressions of the Christian faith. In earlier sessions of debate, several delegates and table groups noted that if the issue is a matter of doctrine, or faith interpretation, then General Synod, not the dioceses, should deal with it. They also asked whether it is merely a matter of practice, or pastoral care, that could be left to individual dioceses. The decision would have given dioceses a so-called "local option." The resolution passed also requests "that the issue of the blessing of committed same-sex unions be considered at the meeting of General Synod in 2007." The original motion approved "the authority and jurisdiction of any diocesan synod, with the concurrence of its bishop, to authorize the blessing of committed same-sex unions."
