Red Deer, Alberta - March 10, 1998 Edmonton, Alberta - April 8, 1998 The Low-THC hemp symposium has been organized by the Special Crops Product Team. It represents a cross-section of specialists across the department and members from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The Team is a liaison between industry and the department. Mission of the Team is " To lead departmental activities in Special Crops, consistent with industry objectives, in response to diversification, value-added and market place opportunities". The Hemp Symposium Committee, headed by Dr. Stan Blade has put in a lot of time and efforts to bring to you a group of resource people (experts) who are going to share their hands-on expertise on this so-called wonder crop, the hemp. It has been claimed as a wonder crop because the plant uses can range from 251 to 20,000. Pockets of industrial hemp production still exist in Europe, Central Asia, and the Far East. Cotton, jute and synthetic fibers had replaced hemp in the textile industry in late thirties. Wood pulp pushed it out of paper manufacturing. Outlawing hemp production in many countries added to its decline. Our government outlawed hemp production in 1938. However, the ban was lifted during the Second World War to enable production of badly needed items such as twine, rope, fire hoses and parachute webbing.

Horse Users Guide Jasper National Park
Horses have been used to explore the mountains of Jasper National Park for a long time. Early outfitters and explorers established many of the trails in the park’s 1200–kilometer network. Today, these same trails sit within one of Canada’s most spectacular national parks and a world heritage site.
Horse travel is welcome in many areas of the park. This guide will assist you in planning your horse trip and help limit your impact on the parks important (and fragile) wilderness.
Where Can You Ride?
Horse travel is permitted throughout the park EXCEPT for the following trails and areas: Frontcountry:
  • Old Fort Point, Wilcox Pass, Sulphur Skyline, Self-guided trails at Mt. Edith Cavell (Meadows, Path of the Glacier Trails), Lee Foundation Trail at Lake Annette, Whistlers Summit Trail, Maligne Canyon Trail, Mary Schäffer Loop (Maligne Lakeshore) and Miette Hot Springs Nature Trail (Sulphur Pass via Fiddle River Trail).
