Almost nothing is currently known about the species diversity or distribution of ants in the San Francisco area, so the Academy is embarking on an effort to create a detailed ant map for ten Bay Area counties. Visitors who wish to participate can pick up an ant collecting kit from the Academy's Naturalist Center (located on the second floor of the Howard Street facility). After collecting specimens and returning them to the Academy along with geographic data, each participant's results will be added to the project map and Web site, which will be available online at www.antweb.org

The pride of Oak Ridge NC, the Oak Ridge Military Academy has trained powerful leaders for more than a century.
The school was closed between 1861-1866 due to the Civil War. Some 100 students enlisted or were conscripted into Southern units. These units included the Guilford Guards, Stonewall Boys, Wilkes Guards, 11th Regiment of N.C. Volunteers, Madison Greys, Confederate Guards, Troublesome Boys, Guilford Men, 21st Regiment, 57th Regiment, 48th Regiment, 22nd Regiment, 45th Regiment, 29th Regiment, and many other regiments of N.C. troops.
The cadet honor code: I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.
The cadet creed: I will be honest and courteous, respect the rights and dignity of others, and be proud of how I act and who I am. My best friend studied here, embraced these values, and became the man the Academy aspires that all might become.

La Sierra Military Academy
La Sierra Military Academy is a special program within La Sierra High School that provides a high school education in a military environment. The Academy stresses academic studies, physical conditioning, a strict disciplinary structure, military conduct and behavior, and extra-curricular activities. The Academy has its own campus located at 626 N. Akers Street in Visalia. Weekday hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Students attending the Academy begin each day with 1.5 hours of physical exercise. They then attend high school curriculum classes, including math, reading, writing, history, science, economics, civics and other courses leading to a high school diploma. All academic teachers hold California Teaching Credentials for their subjects and experienced instructors teach physical conditioning, vocational skills courses, job search skills and work experience.
La Sierra has applied for the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) and plans to begin those courses in the fall of 2004. The NJROTC courses will be taught by retired Naval officers and provide a rich history and orientation of military rules, regulations, opportunities and careers. NJROTC also provides training in marching drills, rifle competition, field trips to military installations and advancement in military duty.
La Sierra Military Academy is a volunteer program and is open to any student in grades 9 through 12. Parents must be aware of the requirements of strict disciplinary and military environment and agree to all of its conditions prior to their child enrolling into the program. The successful completion of the Academy's academic and military requirements will result in a state approved high school diploma.
