Everyone loves free libraries. Just take a look at our collection of library stories - What's Your Library Story? - to see how much libraries mean to real people. But libraries can't live on love alone. In the past two years, the State of California's aid to California public libraries has been cut 70% . In those same two years, our Santa Cruz Public Library's budget for books, tapes, and periodicals has been reduced 35% . To help continue the broad selection of books and media we have had in our libraries, it's time for all of us to add the Library to our annual gift giving through tax-deductible donations. Join the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries in our Book Fund Drive . Your donation is tax-deductible as allowed by Federal and State law, and we guarantee that your donation will be spent on books and media.

Resources for Researchers
Resources to help get you started on research in the Archives, whether you are faculty, staff, student, or community member. They can help answer questions like:
  • What sorts of things are in the Archives? How can I get a contemporary or historical photograph of UCI to illustrate my brochure? Does the Archives have anything on [your research topic here]? Does the Archives have the letter written in 1972 by the former director of my department? How can I access the collections?

Since many of the records housed here are unique (only one copy exists), our collections do not circulate. Researchers may use the collections in the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room on the fifth floor of the Langson Library. During the regular school year, the reading room is open from 10 to 6, Monday through Friday and from 1 to 5 on Saturdays.

Weathering Atmospheric Flow

Forecasting models
According to the US Department of Commerce, about one-third of this country's gross domestic product from private industry, approximately $3.5 trillion, is climate and weather sensitive. Industries like agriculture, air travel, and tourism are highly dependent on accurate forecasts while weather patterns are also intricately tied to pollution and even national security. The problem is that the models used for weather forecasting are incomplete. UC Berkeley environmental engineer Tina Katopodes Chow (left) is helping fill the gaps.

Introduction
Library resources on the Berkeley campus of the University of California are rich, varied, physically dispersed, and administratively decentralized. There are two major types of libraries on campus: The University Library system and The Affiliated Libraries. The university library system includes Doe/Moffitt and the branch libraries, and collectively is known as The Library. The eleven Affiliated Libraries contain significant campus collections. University of California Office of the President (UCOP) statistics Organization, Services and Access Policies
The Affiliated libraries are typically connected to particular departments, professional schools, or organized research institutes. These libraries are administratively separate from The Library system and from each other. The primary mission of the Affiliated Libraries is to support the teaching and research needs of their respective organizations. Their collections reflect these specialized concerns. The Affiliated Libraries have developed in-depth subject emphases and may use their own subject headings and classification schemes. Some of the Affiliated Libraries collections are currently represented in the University's
