Contents News Reports CA LEP enrollment continues slow growth in 1995 The number of students reclassified from LEP to fluent English proficient increased for a second year in a row, rising 13.7% over 1994. This seems to reverse a trend of the previous several years in which the rate of reclassified students stayed fairly flat. It is a long way, however, from matching the number of new LEP students added to the enrollments every year. The number of fluent English proficient students remained just over the 600,000 mark as it has for the last several years. The top non-English language backgrounds of these students were Spanish (990,801; 78.4%), Vietnamese (48,907; 3.9%), Hmong (30,345; 2.4%), Cantonese (23,954; 1.9%), and Cambodian (21,765; 1.7%). The services these students received improved from the previous year. More LEP students were receiving some services designed to take into account their English proficiency. The proportion of students receiving no services declined from 26.6% in 1994 to 23.1% in 1995 (see Figure 2 below). This was a 13% decline. The State reports the LEP instructional services LEP students received according to 4 "models" reflecting the uses of the English and non-English languages. These range from English language development (ELD) alone, to ELD and specially designed academic instruction in English (SDAIE), to ELD, SDAIE and the informal use of the non-English language in the classroom (PLS for primary language support), to ELD and academic instruction in the non-English (primary) language (ASPL).

I found this sight today and have been having the most wonderful time on it.
My name is Cali. I work in California in a long term care facility that is also part of an acute hospital.
My duties are education, infection control, compliance issues, and of course anything else that has been cast to the side or anything else that I discover needs improvement.
I have been doing this for 3 1/2 years now. I really do enjoy it.
If you would like to start our own web ring so to speak then sign in on the roll call.
We can be very valuable to each other. There are many Long Term Care facilities and one of us in each building. Where are my peers?
    Hope to see you soon,
Cali:wavey: 08-17-2002, 04:53 PM :) Hello calinurse. I have been SDC and Restorative Coordinator for approx. 1 year now. I create a % of my own inservices. Of course the compliance issues inservices are created by the company for the most part however, we are able to submit some of our own for our "as needed" and "specific" requirements. I use a lot of our vendors for inservices. They love to talk about their products and provide education with it.
The biggest problem I run into is getting the staff to attend the inservices. With the shortage and the constant revolving door with CNA's I have found it to be a challenge to get them into the inservices. Do you ever have that problem and if so what do you do?
