President Bush said yesterday that he doesn't "see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.
Mr. Bush told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that many in the public misunderstand the role of faith in his life and his view of the proper relationship between religion and the government.
"I think people attack me because they are fearful that I will then say that you're not equally as patriotic if you're not a religious person," Mr. Bush said. "I've never said that. I've never acted like that. I think that's just the way it is.

BUSH IN GERMANY
Could George W. Bush Be Right?

By Claus Christian Malzahn in Berlin
Germany loves to criticize US President George W. Bush's Middle East policies just like Germany loved to criticize former President Ronald Reagan. But Reagan, when he demanded that Gorbachev remove the Berlin Wall, turned out to be right. Could history repeat itself?
AP Many Germans don't like President George W. Bush and like to criticize his foreign policy. But could Bush be right? Quick quiz. He was re-elected as president of the United States despite being largely disliked in the world particularly in Europe. The Europeans considered him to be a war-mongerer and liked to accuse him of allowing his deep religious beliefs to become the motor behind his foreign policy. Easy right?
Actually, the answer isn't as obvious as it might seem. President Ronald Reagan's visit to Berlin in 1987 was, in many respects, very similar to President George W. Bush's visit to Mainz on Wednesday. Like Bush's visit, Reagan's trip was likewise accompanied by unprecedented security precautions. A handpicked crowd cheered Reagan in front of the Brandenburg Gate while large parts of the Berlin subway system were shut down. And the Germany Reagan was traveling in, much like today's Germany, was very skeptical of the American president and his foreign policy. When Reagan stood before the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall and demanded that Gorbachev "tear down this Wall," he was lampooned the next day on the editorial pages. He is a dreamer, wrote commentators. Realpolitik looks different.

Broadcasting watchdogs in the UK have banned adverts for the satirical cartoon 2DTV after ruling that they were insulting to US President George W Bush. The commercials were to be broadcast to promote a Christmas video for the ITV1 show.

Uisdean Maclean,
TV ad watchdog The Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC) ruled that the ads were offensive because they questioned the president's intelligence, and without having asked his permission. The BACC is shown adverts before they can go out on television. In one of the ads, a cartoon President Bush was shown opening a copy of the video and saying: "My favourite - just pop it in the video player." But he places it in a toaster instead and the videotape is burnt.

Message from United States President George W. Bush I'm proud to join you in commemorating the 150th year of the important relationship between the United States and Japan. Today, America has no closer ally than Japan. The American people are proud to claim the friendship of the fine citizens of Japan. Our two nations are bound by common interest, common values and common goals. Our alliance brings peace, stability, and hope for a better future to our own citizens and to people across the Pacific and around the world. Every year, our two economies produce more than 40% of the world's wealth. Together we lead the world in the scientific and technological advancement that defines our age. In 1854, representatives from our two countries negotiated the Treaty of Peace and Amity. Six years later, Japan sent its first official mission to San Francisco with 80 dignitaries eager to learn about America and to expand the contact between our two people. Today, millions of Japanese travel to the United States each year. Japanese culture, from food to film, enriches Americans' lives, and Ichiro is winning the hearts of young American baseball fans from coast to coast. The friendship between our people benefits the world. Japanese and American scientists collaborate to fight HIV/AIDS, and to develop new technologies to clean the world's environment. Our governments work together to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, to bring peace to strife-torn lands, and to defeat the terrorists that threaten our common values. Our men and women in uniform serve alongside each other to maintain peace and stability in Asia. And at this hour, Japanese and American forces are helping the Iraqi people build a better future.

How US President George W Bush feels about Kim Jong-il we already know, from statements like "I loathe Kim Jong-il" and "axis of evil" and name-calling like "pygmy". What much of the world might not so readily know is that the loathsome, evil, less-than-statuesque North Korean leader hates the swaggering Texan with equal, or even greater, passion.
Why the obsession? What has George W Bush done to North Korea to set himself apart from all his predecessors? Could it be that Kim's fear and hatred of Bush is the culprit in the ongoing nuclear saga, as so many of us believe?

In his 2005 State of the Union Address, President Bush described the state of our Union as confident and strong - the U.S. economy is growing steadily, more Americans are finding jobs, and our Nation is serving as an active force for good in the world. The President conveyed his gratitude to the American people for the privilege to serve once again, with a renewed commitment to the guiding ideal of liberty for all. He recognized that, over the last four years, Americans have come together to overcome great challenges, and he underscored his faith and confidence in the American people and our Nation's future.

FOR RESPONSIVE POLITICS PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH 2004 ELECTION Introduction President Bush won reelection against Sen. John Kerry in a presidential race that shattered previous fundraising and spending records to become the most expensive in U.S. history. Both candidates benefitted from the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, which went into effect just before the 2004 election cycle began and doubled the individual contribution limit from $1,000 to $2,000. The Center for Responsive Politics analyzed campaign contributions to Bush and the other presidential candidates during the election cycle that began Jan. 1, 2003. The figures are based on data from the Federal Election Commission, which collects campaign finance reports from the candidates. Summary Data : Bush took in a record $360 million for the 2004 election, easily exceeding the $193 million he raised four years earlier. Bush spent $306 million, another record. John Kerry finished behind Bush in the money chase, but still posted totals that far exceeded those seen in any previous election.

Why You Should Vote For George Bush For President
A funny thing happened on the way to the 2004 presidential election… We took a side trip back 35 years to the Vietnam War and the late 60s-early 70s. When John Kerry decided to center his campaign around his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam (as evidence to his fitness for command in a time of war), he reopened old wounds not healed by time, but rather simmering just below the surface all these years.
John Edwards is right. There are two Americas; but, in this case, the Height-Ashbury vs. the Silent Majority and bringing Vietnam up again, has re-ignited the culture war debate in a time of war.
Oh yeah, there’s the war on terrorism, sort of forgotten in the discussion about Vietnam and Swiftboats; Iraq and weapons of mass destruction (WMD); multi-colored alerts and political timing; Fahrenheit 9/11 and Abu Ghrab; MoveOn.org and 572 groups; Rush Limbaugh and Fox News and Florida 2000.
And George Bush’s presidency is at the epicenter.
When George Bush was elected in 2000, there were some who believed that his "compassionate conservative" theme would result in an "uneventful presidency." Because the Cold War was over, and as the Clinton years proved, foreign policy adventures would be of the United Nations peacekeeping kind, and Bush’s domestic policy would be minor conservative initiatives.

"People say I was a man of privilege and by that they mean money," Bush reflected. "But I was privileged in the question of values a mother and father who were determined to help their kids be good people." His mother, Dorothy Walker Bush, had a lifelong influence on him; he said she was still instructing him even when he was in the White House. His father, Prescott Bush, was a successful businessman who went on in later life to become a senator. Bush credited him with passing on his core values: "Tell the truth, be honest, work hard, try to see the other guy's point of view while sticking to your own principles. These were truisms, you might say, that my three brothers and my sister and I had inculcated into us growing up."
