by Kelley Kramer I recently had an email exchange with a right-winger from my local newspaper, and of course the war with Iraq came up pretty quick. But he said something in defense of George Bush that really surprised me. In defense of the attack on Iraq he said 'between Hussein and Bush, Hussein is the bad guy'. My first response was ... So your guy is better than a third world dictator, Wow! what an accomplishment! Does he put that on his resume? And with that in mind, I started wondering ... what would a George W Bush resume look like exactly? Listed below is what I came up with, Best! Kelley Kramer George W. It was widely seen as the speech of George Bush's life
Extracts from President George W Bush's historic address to both houses of the US Congress, nine days after New York and Washington were shaken by suicide aircraft attacks. Mr speaker, Mr president pro tempore, members of Congress, and fellow Americans: In the normal course of events, presidents come to this chamber to report on the state of the union. Tonight, no such report is needed. It has already been delivered by the American people. We have seen it in the courage of passengers, who rushed terrorists to save others on the ground - passengers like an exceptional man named Todd Beamer. Please help me to welcome his wife, Lisa Beamer, here tonight. We have seen the state of our union in the endurance of rescuers, working past exhaustion. We have seen the unfurling of flags, the lighting of candles, the giving of blood, the saying of prayers in English, Hebrew, and Arabic. We have seen the decency of a loving and giving people, who have made the grief of strangers their own.

Bush, George Herbert Walker - 41st U.S. President
Born 12 June 1924
Died -
Term 1989 to 1993
  • It was during the Bush administration that the Cold War came to an end. In December of 1988, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev announced the end to the Cold War, began reform in his own country, and removed Soviet troops from Eastern Europe, allowing the countries there to run their own governments. On August 2, 1990 Iraqui troops invaded Kuwait in the Persian Gulf. Kuwait held nearly ten percent of the world’s oil reserves, and Iraq’s president Saddam Hussein wanted to have them. Fearing that Iraq might also attempt to invade Saudi Arabia, thereby gaining control of almost half the world’s oil, President Bush began sending U.S. troops to boost Saudi Arabia’s defense only 6 days after the invasion. In November of 1990, the United Nations Security Council set a January 15, 1991 deadline for Iraqui troop withdrawl from Kuwait. Bush waited seven hours after the deadline for Iraq to withdraw. But when Iraq made no indication of withdrawl, Bush waged war. Six weeks later, troops from the United States and other allied nations overwhelmed the Iraqi army and freed Kuwait. As a result of relaxed federal regulations of the savings and loan industry during President Ronald Reagan ’s term, loan officers often made risky loans. The same individuals also made large campaign contributions to certain senators to avoid federal bank examinations. By 1989 hundreds of billions of dollars had disappeared from government-insured deposits, but little was done since many legislators had taken advantage of these easy campaign contributions.

USA 7 May 2004
Dear Mr President,
The world is watching as your administration responds to the most recent evidence of torture and degrading treatment of Iraqis at the hands of US personnel. While Amnesty International welcomes official statements that the allegations are being taken seriously, the ultimate proof of this will be in actions not words. In this regard, your government’s record in the context of "war on terror" detentions gives cause for concern, as fundamental principles of law and human rights continue to be violated despite the administration’s stated commitment to these principles. Amnesty International recalls your statement on 26 June 2003, made on the occasion of the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, in which you said that "the United States is committed to the worldwide elimination of torture and we are leading this fight by example". The organization urges you now to ensure that the USA fully meets its international obligations, including as a state party to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, to investigate all allegations of torture and ill-treatment, publish all findings, prosecute all perpetrators, compensate all victims, and prevent any future torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. We call on the USA to open the doors of its detention facilities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantánamo Bay, and at undisclosed locations elsewhere, to independent bodies, including visits by United Nations Special Rapporteurs.

George Bush Jr: Palestinian Reform and Palestinian State
June 24, 2002 home news peacewatch top stories ... donations Introduction In this controversial and historic speech, delivered following repeated Palestinian terror attacks and while Israel had reoccupied all of the West Bank in retaliation, US President George Bush called for establishment of a Palestinian state following democratic reform. The speech was delayed several times and changed because of several Palestinian terror attacks and widespread Israeli reprisals. In a sense, it was the first comprehensive speech by President Bush regarding policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, despite the April 4 speech announcing the mission of Colin Powell to the Middle East , and may have been about a year over due. The speech called for establishment of a Palestinian state, but set reform and democracy and abandonment of terror as conditions for establishment of the state: It is untenable for Israeli citizens to live in terror. It is untenable for Palestinians to live in squalor and occupation. And the current situation offers no prospect that life will improve. Israeli citizens will continue to be victimized by terrorists, and so Israel will continue to defend herself. In the situation the Palestinian people will grow more and more miserable. My vision is two states, living side by side in peace and security. There is simply no way to achieve that peace until all parties fight terror. Yet, at this critical moment, if all parties will break with the past and set out on a new path, we can overcome the darkness with the light of hope. Peace requires a new and different Palestinian leadership, so that a Palestinian state can be born.
