(AP Photo/Bill Kostroun) EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - New Jersey Devils coach Pat Burns has colon cancer and will immediately begin treatment, he said Sunday, a day after the defending Stanley Cup champions were knocked out of the playoffs. Burns, 52, said his status with the team will be determined in five weeks, the earliest the treatment could end. "For those who know me well, I've never backed down from any fight. And I'm not going to back down from this one," he said.

15 January 2004 Delivering Inaugural Robert Burns Memorial Lecture, Secretary-General Annan Calls for Brotherhood, Tolerance, Coexistence among All Peoples It is a great pleasure indeed for Nane and me to be here with you to celebrate the great Scottish poet Robert Burns and to help you inaugurate what I hope will become an important series of lectures. Emyr, I realize you have inherited this event from your predecessor. Since you are a quintessential Welshman now joining in tribute to a renowned Scot, I think it only right to congratulate you for your broad-mindedness, which is truly in the spirit of the United Nations and of Burns, too, of course. But then, you might well ask why a United Nations Secretary-General was eager to take part in this event. At first glance, one might think there is an ocean of distance between the hard-nosed give-and-take of international diplomacy as it is practised here in New York, and the lyrical verse that emanated from rural Scotland two centuries ago. But look closer and I think you will see why I am here. Burns has also been described as a poet of the poor, an advocate for political and social change, and an opponent of slavery, pomposity and greed all causes very much supported by the United Nations. He was even, as a tax collector, a civil servant of sorts, though I should stress the United Nations has no interest in that line of work.

Loren H. Engrav, M.D. Burn treatment is a constantly evolving field that has seen dramatic improvements in recent decades.
In 1945, there was only a 25 percent average chance of survival from severe burns. In the early 70s, it was discovered that by ridding the body of burned, dead tissue as early as possible, the risk of infection would be limited, boosting patients' chances of survival. Today, even patients with the most devastating burns - those covering more than 70 percent of their skin surface - have a 50 percent chance of survival. The overall survival rate at Harborview's burn unit stands at 96 percent.
Since its opening in 1974, the UW Medicine Burn Center at Harborview has treated more than 15,000 patients, including nearly all burn victims in Washington. Harborview was one of the first hospitals to adopt the approach of early removal of burned tissue, and was the first site of a major clinical trial for a temporary artificial skin graft, a technology that continues to advance. Especially important is the reduced length of hospital stay for most patients, enabling them to return to their former lives as soon as possible. Most patients are back at work within a few months and children rarely, if ever, miss a year of school.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS MOSCOW - A fire broke out briefly at Moscow's landmark Ostankino television broadcasting tower Monday, a federal emergency official said. No injuries were reported. A spark from a welder's torch apparently ignited a plastic bottle at about 3:50 p.m. inside the third level of the tower, said Irina Andrianova, a spokeswoman for the Emergency Situations Ministry. Workers put out the fire themselves, but not before a cloud of smoke billowed from the 540-meter structure, she said. Russian officials said the fire had not affected transmission equipment.

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of pediatric specialty hospitals, founded by the Shrine, where children under the age of 18 receive excellent medical care absolutely free of charge. There are 18 orthopaedic Shriners Hospitals , three Shriners Hospitals dedicated to treating children with severe burns , and one Shriners Hospital that provides orthopaedic, burn and spinal cord injury care . Shriners Hospitals are located throughout North America There is never a charge to the patient, parent or any third party for any service or medical treatment received at Shriners Hospitals. Shriners Hospitals accept and treat children without regard to race, religion or relationship to a Shriner. Any child may be eligible for treatment at a Shriners Hospital if the child is under 18 and if, in the opinion of the hospital's chief of staff, the child has an orthopaedic or burn condition that Shriners Hospitals can help. All of the orthopaedic hospitals are equipped and staffed to treat children with congenital orthopaedic deformities, problems resulting from orthopaedic injuries, and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Three of the orthopaedic hospitals (in Chicago Philadelphia and Sacramento ) also have special programs dedicated to caring for children with spinal cord injuries.

End Original Message it has been my experince that a 5% nital solution will do the trick. or 5% nitol the difference being the alchol as methnol is now considered an enviromential hazard. or 5% nitric and distilled deionized water. BUT WATCH OUT, IF YOU MIX THESES CHEMICALS WRONG YOU CAN CAUSE ADVERSE REACTIONS LIKE AN EXPLOSION. So take the time read the information on the web or from a supplier.
Ok back to the grinder burn any of these will show a localized grinder burn to the visable eye. providing the surface is smooth enough. Dress with 1000 grit wet sanding paper. Before performing the etch.
Check with ASTM E 305 this may be applicable
