68. Amsterdam News Front Page Article On Radio In Exile
Herb Boyd about the internet broadcasts by the banned, fired and exiled from WBAI's airwaves. WBIX is continuing a tradition of excellency in journalism which has come under attack at WBAI.

Amsterdam News Front Page Article on Radio in Exile By Herb Boyd
After weeks of distressing news, there are at least a few positive things to report from the WBAI battle zone for those fired and locked out former employees. The first piece of good news comes from the west coast. According to a recent report, the chair of the National Pacifica Board, David Acosta, has resigned, along with three other board members, including the treasurer, Michael Palmer. On the east coast, it has come to our attention that the pledge period results from the WBAI marathon is nothing to cheer about for the station's present regime. If the reports are accurate, the station fell far short of its fundraising goal. It is estimated the drive received only half of what it normally raises, which means it must have been off by nearly a half million dollars. Operating on a considerably smaller budget, if any at all, is WBAI's Radio in Exile ( www.wbix.org http://www.wbix.org But this hasn't stopped Maitland (and Ryme Katkouda) from taking the initiative and developing a station in exile on the Internet. "WBIX, a Gathering of Audio refugees, who won't be censored, can't be gagged nor silenced," is the motto emblazoned across the top of the site when you log on, which is in contradistinction to WBAI-FM, according to one former listener. Rather than talk about the show and its current manifestation, Maitland allowed the reporter to listen in while he conducted a cyberspace interview with another former staffer at WBAI, Susan Lee, who used to host "You and Your Money." In very lucid terms, Lee, as she once did on the airwaves, dissected Bush's tax cuts, noting that for the middle income earners the rebate would be equivalent to a peanut butter sandwich, while the super rich could expect a Lexus.

Internet radio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Web radio Internet radio is a broadcasting service transmitted via the Internet . Not every internet "radio station" has a corresponding traditional radio station. Many internet radio stations are completely independent from traditional ("terrestrial") radio stations and broadcast only on the Internet. Broadcasting on the Internet is usually referred to as streaming. Because the radio signal is relayed over the Internet, it is possible to access the stations from anywhere in the world—for example, to listen to an Australian radio station from Europe or America . This makes it a popular service for expatriates and for people who have interests that may not be adequately catered for by their local radio stations (such as country music ). Some of the internet radio services offer news, sports, talkback, and various genres of music—everything that is on the radio station being re-broadcast.

In two to three weeks' time, Radio New Zealand expects to start delivering a range of on-demand content and simulcast audio over the internet.
Radio NZ expects to webcast 60 hours every week and has deployed content servers in the Auckland, Wellington and Palmerston North internet exchanges to transmit it around the New Zealand internet. A server in California has also been deployed to serve content to New Zealanders abroad and to customers national providers that do not peer at the exchanges for various reasons.
All the servers will use a single consistent "anycast" IP address, like the DNS root servers, so as to ensure content is delivered to customers from the server closest to them.
