FINDING BOOKS The CONSORT catalog can be used to locate books, government documents, microforms, video and sound recordings, and special collections materials available in the Kenyon, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster libraries. If you find an item in CONSORT that is in Kenyon's collection, use the library's Floor Plans to help you locate the call number in the stacks. CONSORT also provides access to the OhioLINK If you are unable to find an item in CONSORT or OhioLINK, the next step is to try WorldCat . WorldCat contains records of holdings for over 9,000 institutions worldwide. To request an item found in WorldCat, use Kenyon's Interlibrary Loan Request Form
FINDING JOURNAL ARTICLES Library catologs like CONSORT and OhioLINK don't contain information about individual articles within journals and don't always contain information about articles in anthologies or other book-format collections. Instead, a variety of other resources for finding articles may be used. Available online are several article databases, some containing the full text of journal articles others only journal article citations. In the latter case, once you've identified an article that you'd like to read and the journal in which it was published, you must check CONSORT or OhioLINK to determine which library holds the journal that you need. If the journal is not located at Kenyon and isn't available online, use the

Overview of British literature
English literature is sadly and surprisingly in need of attention. To my mind, British literature is the place for an overview of the various literatures of the British Isles and how they have interacted and influenced each other (or not) over the centuries. That does not mean ignoring English literature in England of course, but placing it in the context of the multilingual societies of the islands helps to counter systemic bias . As a speaker of another language of the isles, I have my own axe to grind of course, but I hope this won't be held against me any more than I hold anything against monoglot anglophones Man vyi 07:43, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Are you serious? This article hardly covered literature in English at all before I added mentions of some minor figures like Milton, Chaucer and Dickens yesterday. It is still very likely the least anglocentric article about British literature which has ever existed. In fact, it displays chronic systemic bias

Description
Major Minor Undergraduate Program Description
The English department offers three kinds of courses: Composition courses, undergraduate courses, and graduate courses. Composition courses develop skills in reading analytically and in writing persuasively. Undergraduate and graduate courses cover the entire range of English and American literature, as well as creative writing. Students majoring in English may elect a teaching emphasis, a creative writing emphasis, or a general literature emphasis. The teaching emphasis focuses on the study of composition and of language. The writing emphasis focuses on fiction, poetry, and article writing. Creative writing majors have an opportunity to work with distinguished professional writers of fiction and poetry. The general literature emphasis focuses on a series of related courses in various historical periods of English and American literature.
Career Alternatives Graduates have found the major excellent pre-professional training for graduate study in English, as well as for careers in teaching, writing, law, medicine, and library work. Many graduates are employed in journalism, publishing, advertising, and public information. Others have worked in local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as in industry and agriculture. Some have established their own businesses.

Course Schedule Focus for Paper 1
Select any work of British literature (after 1780) that interests you and discuss, in a 2-to-3-page essay, how it illustrates one major characteristic of Romanticism. Use your class notes and background in The Norton Anthology to develop a clear understanding of the feature of Romanticism you are discussing. (See instructions on using quotations if you quote directly from the anthology). If you write about literature written after the Romantic period, discuss its demonstration of the influence of Romanticism, or, if you want to write about work(s) or children's literature, talk to the professor if you want to develop a different focus relation to children's literature. Most Victorian literature shows the continuing influence of Romanticism. If you wish to write about a work not on the course syllabus, consult the professor before writing the paper.
Basic Steps for Writing a Literature Paper
    Pre-Writing Suggestions
It may be helpful first to submit a journal entry with a short discussion of your potential topic, or a "brainstorming" list of ideas and details that could be used in a paper on a topic you are exploring. Or use the attached worksheet to get feedback on your topic before writing the paper.
