GENERAL INFO Tyee Fishing Club Home About the Tyee Club Calendar of Events 2005 Raffle Items ... Links FISH TALES Aikman and Bergendahl Dunbar Enns K. Gage ... 2005 Catch Record The Tyee Club of British Columbia began as a group of anglers who returned to Campbell River each year in pursuit of the elusive "Tyee" - a coastal Indian word meaning, "the chief". The Tyee are Chinook salmon, 30 pounds or larger. In those early days, the numbers of large, hard-fighting, line-breaking Tyee were recorded for posterity. It was sport at its grandest! While fewer Tyee are caught today, the spirit of those early sportsman flourishes as a result of the club they founded in 1924. The idea for the Tyee Club was thought up by Dr. J. A. Wilborn, Mr. A. N. Wolverton, and Mr. Melville Haig (the manager of the Willows Hotel in Campbell River) in 1924. These three men were socializing at the Willows Hotel when they decided that the Tyee salmon was just as great as the California Tuna, and hence, the Tyee deserved a club that would protect and honor it. Their concept of fishing to standards that defined the sport, the methods of fishing, and the tackle used, have become an internationally recognized and respected tradition. You can't buy, inherit or win membership in the Tyee Club. But, if you're willing to meet the challenge, you can fish your way into membership. The Tyee club officially started in 1925 with the implementation of an official set of rules.

    Columbia (OV-102)
    Background
Columbia, the oldest orbiter in the Shuttle fleet, is named after the Boston, Massachusetts based sloop captained by American Robert Gray. On May 11, 1792, Gray and his crew maneuvered the Columbia past the dangerous sandbar at the mouth of a river extending more than 1,000 miles through what is today south-eastern British Columbia, Canada, and the Washington-Oregon border. The river was later named after the ship. Gray also led Columbia and its crew on the first American circumnavigation of the globe, carrying a cargo of otter skins to Canton, China, and then returning to Boston. Other sailing ships have further enhanced the luster of the name Columbia. The first U.S. Navy ship to circle the globe bore that title, as did the command module for Apollo 11 , the first lunar landing mission. On a more directly patriotic note, "Columbia" is considered to be the feminine personification of the United States. The name is derived from that of another famous explorer, Christopher Columbus. The spaceship Columbia has continued the pioneering legacy of its forebears, becoming the first Space Shuttle to fly into Earth orbit in 1981. Four sister ships joined the fleet over the next 10 years:

Welcome to the NEW Frequency Guide Victoria!
If you've visited this page before, you'll notice it has completely changed. I have taken down most of the original scanner information and am in the process of putting new pictures, more links, and more about my radio hobbies. This site is NOT designed to be a good source of scanning for Victoria or Vancouver Island. The best source for all of the entire island with CREST info is Vancouver Island Scanner Reference I have sure changed since I started the site in 2001, I was just 14 years old when I started the original site while learning web design. As of April 2005l, this site has received over 68000 unique visitors from around the world and averages 58 hits a day. Surprising when you consider this was a fun little site about a small hobby in a small city Many people from around the world have send emails and have engaged in some very interesting conversations. Some highlighted locations people have emailed me from are Brazil and United Arab Emirates while I commonly receive emails from all over Canada and the United States. I am now almost 18 years of age and am nearing the end of my High School education with plans on becoming a commercial pilot. I am in my filth year of Air Cadets whom I regularly go flying with and hope to receive a flying scholarship from Cadets this summer. I also have my Basic Amateure license rating and I am a current volunteer at the Saanich emergency program(simplex freq is 146.565).
