Without you there Rafe, we would not have known anything about this vital and important situation.

PR FIRM HILL AND KNOWLTON HIRED BY BC FISH FARMING INDUSTRY
"The fish farm industry has utterly failed to prove it is not a threat to BC's wild salmon and to the province's marine environment, so it has now resorted to hiring a multinational PR firm that specializes in representing totalitarian governments and corporate polluters. Hiring Hill and Knowlton speaks volumes about the real intentions of this industry and the lengths to which it will go to dupe the BC public," said Chris Genovali of Raincoast Conservation Society. "
For more on this move by the bc fish farmers who have lost their ability to listen to the people of BC through proper dialoque on the compelling issue of the damage the aqua culture industry is doing to the coastal waters, the fishing industry and the bc first nations go to

by Kirk Tousaw (30 Jul, 2005) Help free Marc Emery from American tyrany Imprisoned activist Marc Emery Today the offices of the BC Marijuana Party, a registered political party in British Columbia, were caught up in a DEA-instigated raid. The raid is a dramatic example of the loss of Canadian sovereignty to the US drug war. The focus of the US drug war is marijuana, with over 750,000 annual possession charges laid and draconian penalties for possession, cultivation and sales of the plant. Until today, Canada took a different approach.
Unfortunately, the Canadian governement appears to have abdicated its sovereignty to the United States. Most Canadian (and, indeed, most Americans) do not agree with with the war on marijuana users. It is a dark day when Canadian municipal police officers are called upon to do the bidding of US masters.
This raid must serve as a call to arms. Canada is losing the ability to independently create its drug policy, despite reams of scientific and empirical evidence that prohibition is more dangerous than a regulated approach to cannabis distribution. The battle for freedom, equality and tolerance must be fought and won. We must not allow our Canadian way of life to be subjected to the whim of the US White House and its repressive policies.

Native Culture
It is believed that native peoples first migrated to Vancouver Island 8000 to 10000 years ago. Today, the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwak'wala speaking) peoples comprise approximately twenty four percent of the total population living in the North Vancouver Island, Port McNeill area. There are many village sites located throughout the North Island. The Native (First Nations) tribes, or bands, residing in the area include the 'N a m g is, Qwe'Qwa'Sot'Em and Ma' a mtagila. The First Nations peoples have played a huge role in the history of this area and continue to be a major factor in its present and future. Their traditions and cultures have been threatened ever since the first Europeans visited Vancouver Island in the late 1700s, and the struggles to retain and recover their languages, land and cultures continue to the present day. Paddling in the waters in and around Johnstone Strait and Blackfish Sound, we often come across reminders of the area's first inhabitants. Whether we are landing on a midden (white clamshell) beach, spotting pictographs on the rocks, or visiting an abandoned native village site, we are always keeping in mind those who came here before us, and appreciating their myths and traditions.

British Columbia
British Columbia has enormous potential for energy development. Potential hydroelectric sites and fossil fuel reserves are capable of developing tens of thousands of megawatts if fully attained.
Some of them are remote, for example, the Yukon-Taku and Liard River basins of the far northwest; and others are currently environmentally unacceptable such as the development of dams on major salmon spawning rivers.
Still, the province produces more energy than it requires; electrical power is exported by transmission lines to the United States, and large quantities of coal are shipped to Japan. Electricity generating plants in British Columbia have a total capacity of about 13 million kilowatts and produce some 61 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. About 86 percent of the electricity generated in the province comes from hydroelectric installations.
Transmission lines carry electricity generated on the Bridge River, the
