IPv6 in Broadband Service providers of all types can benefit from the flexibility and new revenue opportunities of IPv6-based broadband. By Salman Asadullah and Adeel Ahmed The number of broadband subscribers worldwide grew from 33 million at the end of 2002 to 97 million at the end of 2003, reports Ovum Access Forecasts, and is expected to reach 140 million by the end of this year. Studies show that these broadband consumers, with their high-speed, "always-on" connections, spend more time online, are generally willing to spend more money on communication services (such as music) and high-value offerings, and are more likely to set up home networks and expand their network capabilities incrementally with applications such as wireless and home surveillance and even advanced services such as voice over IP (VoIP) and real-time video on demand. The exponential growth of broadband worldwide and the online proclivities of these end users provide one of the best opportunities for service providers of all types to increase their revenues and profitability. They are looking for ways to evolve their current network architecture to meet the needs of Internet-ready appliances and new applications, as well as provide new services to their customers. And Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is designed to help service providers meet these challenges. IPv6 gives every user multiple global addresses that can be used for a wide variety of devices including cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and IP-enabled vehicles.

May 3, 2004 MAXON BRIDGES THE GAP TO ARCHICAD New plugin provides direct data exchange between ArchiCAD and CINEMA 4D
Friedrichsdorf, May 3, 2004- MAXON Computer today released an eXchange plugin for the seamless exchange of data between Graphisoft ArchiCAD and MAXON CINEMA 4D. The plugin transfers all relevant objects, object classes, lights, materials and cameras of an ArchiCAD project to CINEMA 4D. Now architects can visualize their projects perfectly by combining ArchiCAD's proven design tools with CINEMA 4D's high quality rendering.
Screenshot - click picture to enlarge. The building process starts with the established design tools of ArchiCAD, and as soon as the plans are ready, the project can then be exported to CINEMA 4D. In CINEMA 4D, ArchiCAD colors can then be replaced with photorealistic materials. This takes just a single mouse click using the Material eXchange plugin. Add a few additional objects such as trees and people from the many CINEMA 4D model libraries that are available, and already you have the basis of a pleasing visualization. The example opposite took less than two hours to create including render time starting with the imported ArchiCAD example project. The eXchange plugin also features an intelligent Update function. This allows you to go back to ArchiCAD to modify the building without fear of losing any work that you may have already done in CINEMA 4D. Your CINEMA 4D trees, lights, materials and so on will be preserved when you update, enabling you to quickly produce updated pictures and movies of the new design to delight your client with speedy updates.

May 31, 2001 Plugin Offers Seamless Access to Real-Time 3D Painting App
MAXON Computer, May 31, 2001 - MAXON Computer is pleased to announce the release of a new plugin that integrates its BodyPaint 3D professional 3D painting application with Discreet's 3DS MAX versions 3 and 4. This new plugin enables 3D artists to combine two powerful applications to improve and expand production workflow. Adding fine detail to textures in a 3DS MAX scene is now easier than ever before. Artists can even paint in raytraced mode for the ultimate real-time feedback.
BodyPaint 3D allows texturing of everything from low-poly game models to complex 3D objects with millions of polygons. The BP MAX exchange plugin supports conversion of complete 3ds max scenes, including objects, hierarchies, lights, cameras, common material properties and UV tags. The scene is translated from 3DS MAX to BodyPaint 3D with the click of a button. All UV manipulation and painting of textures are then passed back to MAX with another click. BodyPaint 3D has garnered numerous awards since its release in late 2000, including MacWeek's Best of Show for MacWorld 2001. MAXON's unique RayBrush technology enables users to paint onto a raytraced image in three dimensions in real time. Reflectivity, bump, transparency, specularity and other channels can be painted in real time with direct visual feedback in multiple 3D views. Up to 10 material channels can be painted concurrently to create compound effects like rust and scarring. Advanced UV manipulation tools allow easy manipulation of UV through Optimal and Interactive Mapping as well as detailed point editing. Additionally, BodyPaint 3D takes full advantage of the advanced features of Wacom's Intuos intelligent graphics tablet system. Users can map most aspects of brush characteristics to the pressure, tilt and angle of the Wacom pen.

E2E Bridge for SAP Solutions
The E2E Bridge is the first MDA platform world-wide which allows 100% model driven integration and migration in the context of SAP® systems. This represents a major breakthrough for integration and migration tasks in conjunction with popular SAP solutions, such as SAP® R/3®, SAP® Web Application Server or third party SAP software.
Business Benefits
First projects demonstrate that the benefits associated with the E2E Bridge can be applied to a broad range of scenarios where SAP solutions need to be integrated with third party backends, independent of the complexity of the task at hand:
  • Cost: implementation and maintenance cost reduced by an order of magnitude Speed: development cycle of integration projects accelerated by 10x and more Transparency: maximized due to elimination of all source code programming
Although the applicability of the E2E Bridge is not limited to particular tasks only, the following scenarios suggest a clear preference for the E2E Bridge in comparison to other integration or migration approaches:

http://www.catskillarchive.com/rrextra/arrybeau.Html
THE CENTURY MAGAZINE APRIL, 1908 THE RAILWAY BEAUTIFUL BY SYLVESTER BAXTER WITH PICTURES BY HARRY FENN Great railway companies, as a rule, very naturally lay stress upon the attractiveness of the scenery along their lines; they spend enormous sums in the production and circulation of illustrated literature to make it known. Incidental to this attractiveness, in no small degree, are the improvements carried out in many parts of the country by various companies under policies of enlightened self-interest. Indeed, few things can make a more agreeable impression upon the traveler than glimpses of well-ordered and beautiful surroundings at the way-stations, caught perhaps only for a flashing instant in passing, or satisfying the eye during pauses that otherwise would be tedious. Where a railway passes through a town, the community commonly presents its least attractive aspect. The noise, the smoke, the dust, and the cinders make property that borders a railway line undesirable for residential purposes. Consequently it is left to the poorest sort of occupancy. A railway is customarily lined, if not by ugly factories, by squalid tenements, or by the shabby little houses of the poorer classes, with unkempt back yards, and outbuildings Aspects of this sort commonly convey about the only feature of a place obtained by passers-through. There are thousands of towns and villages in the United States that for hundreds of thousands of persons are associated only with scenes of this sort. In truth, however, the impressions made by these strips of shabbiness along the railway are as erroneous, as those which might be derived from a trip through the main sewer of a town. Just beyond, they might behold pleasant, tree-shaded streets, attractive homes, and a community well equipped with good public and business buildings; in short, a place where prosperity abides and good civic standards obtain.

This year's entries for the ar+d awards showed a huge range of invention and ideas from all over the world. Here and on the following pages, Peter Davey, AR Editor and Chairman of the Jury, explains the scope of the awards and the jury's judgements. This is the fourth annual cycle of the ar+d awards. They were conceived by the partnership of The Architectural Review and d line, the distinguished Danish architectural design firm, to discover and celebrate the work of architects and designers not necessarily well known and usually at the start of independent careers. This year, we are most grateful to be sponsored by Buro Happold, the international consulting engineers, who have enabled us to extend the awards and their associated activities in several directions.

New bridges across Asia
One of the most effective weapons against terrorism is greater understanding of Muslim societies, the Dean of Asian Studies at ANU, Professor Tony Milner, told a recent Jakarta conference. Addressing the 4th General Conference of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific  (CSCAP), Professor Milner said it was crucial to make a distinction between Islamist terrorists and increased religiosity in Islamic societies. “We need to listen to specialists on these societies as well as to terrorist experts,” he said. The Australian division of CSCAP is co-chaired by ANU Professor Des Ball and Professor Milner and based at ANU. The organisation has been widely recognised by Australian and international governments for its pivotal role in shaping the architecture of security in the region. The conference was co-hosted by Australia and Indonesia and addressed a wide range of issues including regional law enforcement, intelligence sharing and “post-incident” cooperation - such as occurred between police agencies in the wake of the Bali and Jakarta bombings.
