ATTENTION:
HEAD INJURY SURVIVORS
As you know, life after a TBI is very different than before. I also know; I sustained one in a car accident in 1979.
Since then, I have worked extremely hard to make my life better, and more productive.
In this site, you will find a survey I have put together about "Recreation and Leisure." Please take the time to fill it out, and let me know how you deal with anger, frustrations, and times of boredom you experience in your life.
My work on my web page and corresponding with other survivors is continuous and well worth it. My goal still remains, to raise awareness of this silent epidemic, and to share my book with those who can benefit from it.
Thank you!
Daniel Windheim
WITHIN THIS SITE
The purpose of this web site is to reach survivors of Traumatic Brain Injury and those individuals who are interested in knowing about the impact on an individual's life following one, and to provide a guide on living one's life after such an injury.
Included in this site, you will find information about TBI; responses by TBI survivors throughout the world on various aspects of their lives; the opportunity to contribute your feedback about living with TBI; my own writings on my own experiences; and information about my books for purchase. This is a resource for us; and there is much here of great value.

We provide information, support and training to families and professionals. An acquired brain injury is sometimes referred to as hidden disability, and often goes unrecognised. This inevitably leads to problems for a child in terms of education, provision of care and support. CBIT is working to change this and ensure that professionals recognise the impact and understand the issues.

WHAT IS AN ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY?
An acquired brain injury (ABI) is an injury to the brain that has happened after birth, following a period of normal development. It could be the result of an accident, illness such as an infection, stroke, tumour or poisoning. The injury can affect the way a person thinks, feels and behaves and can, but not always, affect them physically. WHO ARE WE?

96. Brain Injury Permanency From Concussion
The Subtle brain injury Page is a comprehensive treatment of the impact of whathas been mislabeled mild brain injury, concussion or post concussion
http://subtlebraininjury.com/
Subtle Brain Injury "Concussion, PCS, Mild Brain Injury, Post-Traumatic Syndrome. All of these old labels equal Subtle Damage to Our Minds" Click here for Breakthrough Developments in MRI for Subtle Brain Injury Does Concussion involve permanent brain damage? It can. Does Concussion disable? Often, but usually not for extended periods. Will I get better? In all likelihood. If I don't have a full recovery, is it because I am nuts? No. Why is it that some people continue to have persisting problems? That is what this page is about. Table of Contents Far too much of the focus in the study of what the researchers always call "mild" brain injury, is trying to predict how serious a brain injury will become, based upon the way in which the patient interacts with medical professionals in the acute stage. This misses the point. Certainly, if there was no concussion, there isn't likely to be a brain injury. But once there has been a concussion, the focus should not be on categorizing how serious the concussion was, but on what deficits the person is left with, after a healing period, and what we can do to minimize the disruption of those deficits upon this persons life. Why do some people have apparent full recoveries, while others, are profoundly effected by a similar injury? To begin this discussion, we must summarize our theory of the pathology of subtle brain injury.

WELCOME ABOUT US
Individuals with brain injuries, parents, and professionals founded the Brain Injury Association of Maine in 1982. At that time, very little knowledge or awareness about the causes and types of brain injury existed, even among health care providers. The Brain Injury Association of Maine provides information, resources and support to all individuals that request it.
The Brain Injury Association of Maine, a non-profit 501(c) 3, is an affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America in McLean, VA.
Today, the organization reaches over 3,000 individuals, families and businesses annually. The organization has twelve support groups, five active committees staffed by dedicated volunteers, as well as a toll free helpline available for people seeking information about brain injury.
To accomplish the organization’s mission ".. to create a better future for the people of Maine through brain injury awareness, prevention, education and advocacy," the Brain Injury Association of Maine depends upon generous donations from its members, sponsors and the community at large.
