http://www.aau.edu.et/faculties/sc/biology/bioherbarium.htm
The National Herbarium In addition to its formal teaching and research activities, the Department of Biology also manages two units. One of these is the National Herbarium which serves as a national repository of Ethiopian plant specimens and the center of excellence for plant identification in the country. The Herbarium is registered at the International Bureau of Plant Taxonomy and Nomenclature in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and is listed in Index Herbarium with the officialacronym of ETH. The National Herbarium was established on the 19th of November, 1959. It was based on the collection of 6000 specimens by its first Keeper, Dr. H.F. Mooney. Since its establishment, the National Herbarium was kept in the Department of Biology The teaching staff members of the botany courses in the Department are associated with the Herbarium and helped in the collection and curation of the plant specimens. Upto 1980, the total holding of the Herbarium was about 16,000 specimens. Since 1980, when the Swedish Agency for Research Cooperation with Developing Countries (SAREC) started supporting the Ethiopian Flora Project, the botanical research of the Department was firmly established. As a result, the number of collections has steadly increased and now there are over 70,000 collections housed in the National Herbarium. Functions of the Herbarium The main functions of the National Herbarium are to: 1. build up a comprehensive collection of authentically named plants, wild as well as cultivated, especially those found in Ethiopia and its adjacent countries and regions;

In August, she began her doctoral research in lichenology at Duke University with Dr. Francois Lutzoni. Suzanne has ongoing work with Dr. Katherine Glew to study and map the distribution of the lichen taxa Thamnolia subuliformis and Thamnolia vermicularis in North America. P. Brandon Matheny molecular phylogeny and taxonomy of the mushroom genus Inocybe (Agaricales, Basidiomycota) using RPB1, RPB2, and nuclear large subunit rDNA genes. The taxonomic component of his work relied on comparing fresh material with dried specimens from the Herbarium and those on loan from other institutions. Sources of DNA extraction included the dried fruitbodies from specimens that are housed at WTU and those borrowed from other herbaria. The scope of his dissertation included an effort to sample globally among species of Inocybe , including North America, Europe, temperate Asia, southeast Asia, the neotropics, temperate areas of South America, the paleotropics of Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. As a result of this broad sampling, many new species have been discovered: (1) four new neotropical species that associate with the caesalpinioid tree

All greenhouses are connected on the north side to a common headhouse or service building that includes a small laboratory, work areas for potting, cold storage, offices and supply rooms. The greenhouses support both research and teaching activities in Plant Biology, as well as, Genetics and Ecology. While most of the greenhouse space is reserved for research, an extensive collection of plants is maintained for teaching. Greenhouse staff Boyd Patterson Smith Tull The Plant Growth Facilities are under the supervision of Andy Tull Melanie Smith is responsible for teaching and research materials in greenhouses one and two, and the production and delivery of all classroom material. Michael Boyd takes care of research projects in greenhouses five and six, and the plant collections in greenhouse three. C.V. for a dean
    This candidate is an administrator as well as a biology professor with an active research program. His experience is extensive. He wants to continue his administrative work as a dean and his research program. His CV would be more appealing to the eye if he would use indentation more consistently a space three or five characters deep works best. It would also help the reader if his last name and a page number appeared on each page of the CV. In addition we noticed several typos, such as the misspelling of "management." A more careful proofreading would resolve these problems.
