Home stadium: Stadium Koševo (34,600), Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina History
FK Sarajevo was established less than a year after the liberation of Sarajevo from Nazi rule by Partisan forces. The result of a combination between football teams Udarnik (roughly translated: forefronters) and Sloboda (freedom), the club first appeared on the Yugoslavian sports scene in 1946 under the name S.D. Torpedo. It played its first match on November 3rd 1946. By 1947, the name was changed to S.D. Metalaca Sarajevo, before being simplified to FK Sarajevo in 1949. FK Sarajevo first entered the renowned First League of Yugoslavia after eliminating Sloga from Novi Sad. FK Sarajevo drew the first match 3-3 in Novi Sad, but then dominated the second match in Sarajevo 5-1. FK Sarajevo lasted only one season in the First League before falling out, but made it back in 1950. From there, FK Sarajevo remained a stable component of the First League every year except the 1957-1958 season.

FK BORAC (BOSNIA)
Borac (tran. "Fighter") is the name of several sports clubs from Banja Luka in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The football club Borac was founded on July 4, 1926. Originally it was named Radnicki Športski Klub Borac, meaning Workers' Sports Club Fighter. It was founded by a group of football aficionados including Veselin Masleša, Rudolf-Rudi Hiter, Savo Novakovic, Mustafa Softic, Nikola Kukovic and others. The first success of Borac in this early period came in 1928 when it won a tournament played in Sarajevo.
Borac was renamed Fudbalski Klub Borac (Football Club Borac, FK Borac) in 1945. It played two years in the Yugoslav Third League before it advanced to the Second League in 1953.
It became part of the Yugoslav First League in 1961/62 but dropped back out next season. It returned to the First League in 1970/71, all seasons between 1972 and 1980, and between 1989 and 1992. Its best placement in the First League was 1990/91 when it finished fourth. FK Borac was the runner-up in the 1975 Yugoslav Cup, and won it in 1988 as the only Second League club to ever achieve this. The club also won the Mitropa Cup (Central European Cup) in 1992. It played a total of eight games in UEFA competitions.

In the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina, conflict between the three main ethnic groups, the Serbs, Croats, and Muslims, resulted in genocide committed by the Serbs against the Muslims in Bosnia. Bosnia is one of several small countries that emerged from the break-up of Yugoslavia, a multicultural country created after World War I by the victorious Western Allies. Yugoslavia was composed of ethnic and religious groups that had been historical rivals, even bitter enemies, including the Serbs (Orthodox Christians), Croats (Catholics) and ethnic Albanians (Muslims). Ethnic Groups During World War II, Yugoslavia was invaded by Nazi Germany and was partitioned. A fierce resistance movement sprang up led by Josip Tito. Following Germany's defeat, Tito reunified Yugoslavia under the slogan "Brotherhood and Unity," merging together Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, along with two self-governing provinces, Kosovo and Vojvodina. Tito, a Communist, was a strong leader who maintained ties with the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War, playing one superpower against the other while obtaining financial assistance and other aid from both. After his death in 1980 and without his strong leadership, Yugoslavia quickly plunged into political and economic chaos.

As part of Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina was a founding member of the World Organization from 1922 to 1948. Scouting in Yugoslavia was disbanded by the Communist Regime in 1950. Bosnia-Herzegovina rejoined the World Organization in 1955 as a part of, The Scout Association of Yugoslavia. Bosnia-Herzegovina is divided into two sections as a result of the breakup of the former Yugoslavia followed by the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The two are called: the Republic of Srpska and Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is one Scout Association in each section. Both Scout Associations have agreed to work together to form a federation and join WOSM together. Both Scout Associations will meet to finalize matters, which will be presented to WOSM for consideration of membership. It is quite possible that they may be accepted as full members before the end of 1999. The two Scout Associations will form the "Council of Scout Associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The purpose of this council, is to represent both Associations in WOSM. They will both be able to participate in world events such as World Jamborees, World Conferences and a variety of other activities. The goal of this "Council" is to work towards merging into one Scout Association when the political situation in the country is more stable.

    Associate Professor of Sociology
Truman State University Ethnic cleansing is a widely used euphemism for the murders, arrests, rapes, and expulsions of Bosnian citizens. The phrase is euphemistic because cleansing implies an activity that is harmless, ordinary, and even good. The analogy, which the phrase establishes, however, is perverse. Were the murders, arrests, rapes, and expulsions of Bosnian citizens a matter of cleansing? Were the murders, arrests, rapes, and expulsions of Bosnian citizens a matter of cleaning dirt out of an area? In what sense was this activity beneficial? Necessary? Was there anything ordinary about the murders, arrests, rapes and expulsions of Bosnian citizens? The use of this phrase by victimizers and victims alike obstructs an adequate understanding of the activity which the term describes. The use of this phrase also promotes the prejudice which motivates the conduct. The term, ethnic cleansing, patronizes and indulges the rationalization of the actors victimizing people under the guise of cleansing, a term loaded with positive images. Whenever the phrase is used, it leaves unchallenged the assumptions and opinions of those engaged in and committed to ethnic cleansing. Perhaps because the conduct being identified is so painful, it is necessary in media presentations to employ a normalizing language. Nevertheless, ethnic cleansing is a phrase which refers to a planned and methodical act of genocide in southern Europe in the 1990s. Despite his reservations, the author will employ this widely used phrase. The task now is to understand the significance of the conduct which the phrase identifies.

    History of Bosnia and Herzegovina
History of Bosnia and Herzegovina . This site offers an overview to the history of the troubled European nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
    From the site:
For the first centuries of the Christian era, Bosnia was part of the Roman Empire. After the fall of Rome, Bosnia was contested by Byzantium and Rome's successors in the west. Slavs settled the region in the 7th century, and the kingdoms of Serbia and Croatia split control of Bosnia in the 9th century. The 11th and 12th centuries saw the rule of the region by the kingdom of Hungary. The medieval kingdom of Bosnia gained its independence around 1200 A.D. Bosnia remained independent until 1463, when Ottoman Turks conquered the region.
During Ottoman rule, many Bosnians converted from Christianity in favor of Islam. Bosnia was under Ottoman rule until 1878, when it was given to Austria-Hungary as a colony. While those living in Bosnia came under rule by the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, South Slavs in Serbia and elsewhere were calling for a South Slav state. World War I began when Serb nationalist Gavrilo Princip assassinated the Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo. Following the Great War, Bosnia became part of the South Slav state of Yugoslavia, only to be given to Nazi-puppet Croatia in World War II. During this period, many atrocities were committed against Jews, Serbs, and others who resisted the occupation. The Cold War saw the establishment of the Communist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under Josip Broz Tito, and the reestablishment of Bosnia as a republic with its medieval borders within the federation of Yugoslavia.

Mostar Online - http://www.bigfoot.com/~emer A Brief History Of Bosnia-Herzegovina BY ANDRAS RIEDLMAYER, Harvard University Area 19,741 sq. mi. / 51,130 sq. km (about the size of West Virginia; 1/4 larger than Switzerland). Picturesque mountain scenery (Bosnia's capital Sarajevo hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics), much of it covered by forests; no oil. Bosnia's traditional borders, established in the medieval period, are: the Sava River (in the N), the Drina River (E/SE), and the Dinaric Alps (in the W). Herzegovina ("the Duchy") is the historical name for the country's southwestern region (around the town of Mostar). Located in the heart of Europe (as the crow flies, Sarajevo is closer to Rome than Milan is). Population Until the late 19th century, people of all three faiths identified themselves simply as Bosnians. Most Bosnians today are in fact highly secularized, and more than a third of all marriages in Bosnia since the 1950s have been between partners from different religious/ethnic backgrounds. While there were some villages in the countryside where one group or the other predominated, Bosnia's towns and cities have traditionally been the shared home of people from all ethnic and religious groups. The latter include Jews, who found a haven in the tolerant city of Sarajevo in 1492, following their expulsion from Spain. Unlike Jews in Venice and elsewhere in Europe, Sarajevo's Jews were not confined to a ghetto. The city's principal mosques, its synagogues and Christian churches are all located in close proximity to each other, a visible sign of the intermingled public and private lives of its ethnic and religious communities.

Presentday bosnia and Herzegovina becomes part of the Roman Empire in 9 and it becomes bosnia is added to Croatia and Herzegovina is annexed by Italy.
    http://www.electionworld.org/history/bosnia.htm
Present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes part of the Roman Empire in 9 and it becomes in 379 part of the East Roman Empire . After the collapse of East Roman rule in this area the area is controlled by Slavian tribes. Slavs settle the region in the 7th century, and Serbia and Croatia split control of Bosnia in the 9th century. The 11th and 12th centuries sees the rule of the region by Hungary. The medieval kingdom of Bosnia gains its independence around 1200. Bosnia remains independent until 1463, when it becomes part of the Ottoman Empire . In 1878 the area comes under Austrian administration, but under nominal Ottoman sovereignty, followed in 1908 by a formal annexation by Austria. After World War I, in 1918, the region becomes part of the newly founded Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes Croatia and Herzegovina is annexed by Italy. In 1943 Yugoslavia is reconstituted as Democratic Federative Yugoslavia and the war against the occupies continues. After the liberation Yugoslavia becomes a communist dictatorship in 1945 named Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia led by Josip Broz Tito and his Jugoslovenska Radikalna Zajednica (Yugoslav Radical Union Party, KPJ). Tito is prime minister from 1945 until 1953. That year he becomes president. The communists reorganize Yugoslavia in 1963 into a federation of republics as the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia

Beth Kampschror War tourists have been coming to Bosnia-Hercegovina to gawk at ruins and to make macabre visits to massacre sites since the war ended in late 1995. In 2000, Sarajevan Zijad Jusufović was the first person in Bosnia to receive a license as a private tour guide. Among the more startling attractions featured in his brochure are the "Mission Impossible" tour of Sarajevo and an excursion to the eastern Bosnian town of Srebrenica. The first promises visits to former frontline areas and the site of the marketplace massacre. The latter is considered the site of the most horrific atrocities of the war—Bosnian Serb forces overran the town in July 1995 and executed an estimated 8000 Muslims. Some could call Jusufović a war profiteer or worse, but in talking to him one can see that there's more to him than that. He writes poetry for himself and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Bosnia's history and culture, and even takes those interested on "non-gruesome" walking tours. Jusufović talks to CER about his job, history and whether anyone owns it and the problems encountered when starting a business in a country ruled by cronyism and the seemingly never-ending, senseless bureaucracy.
