Social and historical information about Bosnians:
Bosnia and its companion Herzegovina was part of the Roman province of Illyria and was used for its natural resources such as minerals. Bosnia was settled by the Slavs during their great migration and then was Christianized in the 9th and 10th centuries and this remained the religion until the advent of Islam.
Moving on to World War I, Bosnia ignited the spark that started the war
when the Bosnian Serb, Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo
in 1914. Yugoslavia suffered greatly in World War I because many of their men were drafted to fight in the war. After the war, Bosnia was joined

1995: Presentation of Bosnian Culture
In 1995, PIN intensified help to the people of Bosnia and Hercegovina. During the year a number of shipments of humanitarian aid was dispatched. In January 1995, PIN was able to send out a shipment of medicine and health supplies for the hospital in Bihaè, which was handed out by the World Health Organization. In April 1995, PIN delivered a new mobile incubator for the maternity hospital Gradina in Tuzla. This shipment was sent on the basis of an urgent request and information regarding the number of newborns who were dying each year during transport. Another very important shipment of humanitarian help was for Goražde, which during the entire war was cut off from the outside world. PIN staff were able to go around the besieged area and deliver supplies to the devastated city containing primarily foodstuffs, candles, matches and clothing.

At the request of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), PIN began to move supplies through the Czech transportation mission in December of 1994. These supplies consisted mainly of

The following is the text of an address presented by Bosnia Action Coalition co-founder Andras Riedlmayer at the Charity Dinner to benefit the Community of Bosnia Foundation, which is working to help rebuild Bosnian cultural institutions devastated after years of attacks by nationalist extremists. The event was held at La Canelle Rouge, Domaine Les Pailles in Mauritius on 7 March 1997, under the patronage of the president of the republic. Other guests included the country's minister of justice and human rights, the U.S. ambassador to Mauritius, members of Amnesty International, educators, and civic and religious dignitaries. It was sponsored by Comite pour la Bosnie.
Your Excellency Mr President, Mr Minister, Mr Ambassador, Dr Koenig, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening, and thank you for your warm welcome and for your kind words. I feel honored and delighted to have the chance to visit your beautiful country and the opportunity to speak to you tonight. I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the members of the Comite pour la Bosnie and to all those whose hard work, generosity and vision have helped make this evening's event possible. What brings us together tonight is our concern for Bosnia, a distant place that few people had heard of before the tragic events of the past five years.

First Youth Culture Fair Held in Prijedor
Sladjana Kovacevic
28 March 2005 The first PYAF! Fair of Youth Culture in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Prijedor, March 25-26. The Fair was organized by and the Manifest Urban Initiative from Prijedor.
Over 80 young artists and youth organizations’ representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in the Fair, as well as representatives of the government authorities and several publishing companies from the region of former Yugoslavia.
”The Fair proceeded in perfect order. All the invitees came, we worked until late into the night both days, which is the first time somebody has stayed that late at work in Prijedor. We even had organized transportation for participants from Banja Luka and Novi Sad, so we are truly satisfied that a lot of young people visited the Fair. We believe that the meetings held under the auspices of the fair were very successful”, Dejan Dejanovic from Manifest said for OneWorld. “We didn’t want to talk smartly at these meetings, but to provide a forum where organizations, musicians, publishers could established that important first contact. We believe that we succeeded in doing that”, Dejanovic added.

The European Community (EC) Media and Culture Programme
The importance of pluralist media in the development of a democratic society that respects human rights and the peace process has been emphasized by the international community since the signing of the Dayton/Paris Peace Agreement in 1995. Since 1996 the EC has allocated over 16 MEURO to its media and culture programme. The programme focuses on the strengthening of independent media, progress in the freedom of movement and cross-Entity exchanges, the promotion of human rights, democracy and civil society, and improvement of journalistic standards. In the EC committed 2 MEURO to the Open Broadcast Network (OBN), the cross-Entity independent television network, to assist in fair coverage of the first post-war elections. In addition, 16 smaller scale projects were funded ranging from office equipment, supplies and training for electronic and print media in both Entities, to the funding of programmes and publications that promote human rights and democracy. In approximately 4 MEURO was committed through the EC media and culture programme. In preparation for the 1997 elections and as a long-term benefit, the EC allocated 1.7 MEURO to upgrade the OBN system. A further 2.3 MEURO was allocated to 16 smaller scale projects in support of democracy and the peace process. Financial support was given to small independent media to reduce reliance on the economic and political powers that were dictating programming and content. EC funding also provided equipment, vehicles and salaries, new offices and stations, production of programmes that promote the peace process, and training in international standards of journalism.

Nevertheless, before starting any trip to the locations mentioned in this article, you must always remember the two main dangers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH): the roads, and the mines. Too bad for those, who want to take short cuts: there is a real risk in doing that, and it is not worth it.
First of all, BiH offers a large diversity of beautiful landscapes, from the small access to the Adriatic Sea in the South, to the beginning of the great Hungarian plain, in the North. In the middle, the Dinaric Alps surround small valleys and huge plateaux. But what a difference between the karstic landscape of the north western 'polje' (plateau) of the country and the high peaks at the Montenegrin border.
Nature
Water is present everywhere in BiH. Following a river from its source to its confluence with bigger ones (or to the Adriatic Sea for the Neretva) is always a very beautiful trip, allowing you to admire the different states of its course: sources of the Bosna River and the Buna River (with its famous dervish cloister). Onrushing, when lined by sheer cliffs, like the Sutjeska. Cascading, like in the towns of Kravica, Jajce, Kamenica, Drvar or Skakarac. And slower, when the valley gets wider and the river reaches its mouth. By the way, rafting is an activity that has developed in BiH, especially in the Bihac and Mostar areas.
