Executive Summary Vision/Mission Our San Diego Bobsled team is one of a kind and committed first and foremost to marketing our sponsors’ products and name by being the most impressive team on tour. We believe our first responsibility is to our sponsors and to the marketing of their products, while remaining committed to our original reason for developing the team: to win an Olympic medal! We plan to start in the European Cup, then advance to the World Cup, on our way to qualifying for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Our vision is very clear. To ensure our team has a competitive edge. We will recruit the best athletes possible from the San Diego area, and build our own U.S Bobsled. This will ensure the safety and competitive edge that is essential in reaching our goal.
Background Our San Diego Bobsled team was developed because of the lack of opportunities for new athletes. There are no opportunities for athletes without a long-established record to receive funding or logistic support from the United States Olympic Committee, or the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation. Because of this, a San Diego Bobsled team is being created with deep commitment and determination to qualify for the 2002 Winter Olympic games. We have a management team that has experience in all key areas needed to make this team successful. We are driven as a team to “do things right” in management, image, safety, and speed.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 10, 1999 Governor Pataki: Hat Trick For Orda, Lake Placid 2003 World Bobsled Championships Comming To North Country
Governor Pataki today announced that after a 20-year absence the World Bobsled Championship will return to Lake Placid in 2003, thanks in part to the Governor's steadfast commitment to rebuilding the bobsled/luge run at the Olympic facilities. The 14-day event will take place February 3 16, 2003 at the state-of-the-art bobsled and luge track currently under construction at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. The championship will feature a two-man competition February 3-9 and a four-man competition February 10-16. "Lake Placid is regaining its international status as a premier sports facility," Governor Pataki said. "Our smart investments have ensured that Lake Placid is known for more than just its past Olympic glory, but for its vibrant future as well. The return of this championship to New York after 20 years is yet another sign our State is regaining its greatness." Today's announcement completes a "hat trick" for the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), following the efforts to bring the inaugural Winter Goodwill Games (February 17-20, 2000) and the ESPN Great Outdoor Games (July 20-23, 2000) to Lake Placid.

The athletes who raced bobsled were having a difficult time getting into their two-man sleds. That's when Billington - who now races skeleton for the Virgin Island Olympic team and who has raced bobsled before - came up with the idea of a modified, one -man bobsled to fit everybody. "It's the first one-man bobsled in the history of man," says Billington. All of the parts are interchangeable with the traditional, Olympic-sanctioned two-man bobsled, he says. And because both sleds perform "exactly the same," his sled will allow individual drivers and brakemen alike the opportunity to determine who drives best. "Everybody wants to drive," he says.

Traditionally the darling of sliding sports, bobsledding dates back to the 1880s in Albany, N.Y., born of lumbersled races. Today's world-class U.S. bobsledders are generally track and field and/or football converts because a rare union of strength and speed are essential to jumpstarting the mammoth sleds, which can weigh a maximum of 858 pounds (for the two-man) and 1,386 pounds (four-man).
